8th grade champs: Minford (undefeated);
7th grade champs: Burg (undefeated).

No surprise on either. Some good basketball played this year and looking forward to watching these kids in high school in a few years*

You think Montgomery goes straight to Varsity next season?

Swanker: he’s definitely talented enough, but like most other freshmen, question is will SOC II basketball be too physical for him at his current size? Will be interesting to see what Minford does with this group: keep them together for a year in jv, or throw them straight into the fire (varsity) as freshmen? Either way, Minford going to be a handful for rest of area in a few years*

Will be interesting to see what they do. The kid is a great kid and works hard in the gym. He will get stronger this summer and be ready for the varsity level if they choose that. How many seniors do they lose? Was their jv team any good?

I say throw him to the wolves and if he gets beat up by the bigger boys it’ll make him better faster. Roberts is going straight there for sure we need help

Talented enough but he will get muscled around by the older stronger kids
If he makes the varsity better than move him up but don’t expect too much from him as a freshman

fbnut: he kind of reminds me of Robertson at Waverly. I was skeptical he would play varsity as a freshman with his size, but he did, and is obviously doing fine now as a junior. As you said though, expectations gotta be in check with Minford fans with Montgomery and the other kids. I know they have been excited about this group since 3rd grade, but give them time to develop before expecting them to dominate at varsity level.

transplant: Minford loses Vogelsong-Lewis, Risner and Knore, but return Zimmerman, Crank, Coriell, among others. I'd put them behind Waverly, Burg and Valley next year. Looks like a middle-of-pack SOC II team to me, so bringing up some of the freshmen not completely out of the question.

swanker: agreed on Roberts at Webster...whether he's ready or not, he'll likely be playing varsity from day 1 due to necessity.*

Thanks Art, hopefully the boys have a summer this year and they can use that time to see if he will be able to contribute on the varsity level next year. I think he has the skill to do so, just have to see I guess.

Here’s to hoping Young Roberts hits the weights for the next 10 months. Supposedly there’s a new weight facility at Webster. Gotta get some meat on these boys.

I agree, needs to hit the weights. He wont get huge muscles, but he need to be able to hold his own and be physical (think Durant). Will Webster put him in the post of play him as a guard?

Undoubtedly as a guard. Who knows though, maybe he blows up in the next year and can bang with the football kids down low.

He should have been playing in the post this year
Never understood why he wondered around the three point area the entire game

Swanker, fbnut, i agree with you both actually. Just depends on what helps the team, and him develop as a player. If his goal is to play college ball somewhere, what is best for him? to learn the guard position? go inside and be a post player? Do a little of both and be a stretch 4? But webster is going to be guard heavy next year with zimmerman, lower, and bender all returning right? Not too many teams with any size in the league is there?

Not sure he will be strong enough next year to do much in the post
I have no issues with him working on his outside game but in close games and your opponent is well coached and is not letting you have anything outside try getting your butt in the post and see what happens

i agree, gotta get in the weight room no matter what. exactly, with his height, he should be able to get in the post for a few possessions and see what happens. like i said, im not familiar with the league enough to know who has strong/tall post players.

I believe his dad will have him well rounded to score everywhere on the court as well as whoever he works
with on his game. As far as big bodies go in the league the only one I can think of next year would be Futhey and I believe burg had another biggun come off the bench some.

Can’t wait to watch next season with Collins and Carpenter working down low with some help.

He absolutely will. That kid has played some big time basketball against some top competition. He is a gamer, fears no one. He has a amazing work ethic and a great kid. He will probably be Minfords all-time leading scorer when it's said a done. He will be just fine at the Varsity level next season.

SOC II is definitely physical and hard on freshmen.
Northwest is starting 3 freshmen now. Lintz is having a pretty solid season, Jenkins handles himself pretty well.
Copley has played pretty well for Valley also.
