Jr. High football week one:
Re: Jr. High football week one:
Certainly depends on the situation of the game. But there are times when it the right thing to do. We see it all the time by the classy coaches at the college and high school level. Heck by most coaches at any level! There will always be a few coaches who just don't get it. But fewer and fewer each year. That's a good thing!

As long as a coach has put in all his subs and is not running trick plays there is nothing wrong with it. I know little johnny's mom setting in the stands don't see it that way. But for anyone who ever played the game they would rather have a team run straight running plays at them and keep scoring then to take a knee and say we know you can't stop us so we quit trying. what does this teaching your kids.toast wrote:Certainly depends on the situation of the game. As stated early: Valley took a knee at the one against Portsmouth last night on the final drive. Just a nice touch of sportsmanship that is appreciated and respected by most fans.
A better question is when does a coach call off the dogs. Wheelersburg coaching staff sure gained a ton of respect from a whole bunch of people for their classy display last night. Burg was up 49-6 against Ironton at half. Final 49-12. Great example for young kids and even some adults. There is never a need or justification to grind someone into the dirt.

Re: Jr. High football week one:
You are comparing apples and oranges. This was a Jr.high game where neither school has enough kids out to field two teams. they have to combine 7th and 8th just to have enough to play. If Burg's second team would have continued to score would you thought that was grinding someone into the dirt. If a team has played all their players and are running a vanilla offense and not taking timeouts its part of the game. If a coach wants to take a knee on the final drive is one thing. If you have a coach taking a knee in the third quarter is a slap in the face.

Waverly 8th over Vinton County 32-8. Tigers are a much improved team with some people switching positions on both sides of the ball.
Re: Jr. High football week one:
Can anyone give us the week one score between Minford 7th and Wheelersburg 7th? I don't believe it was ever posted.
