Congrats Minford! Great effort by the Pirates! It was a heck of a game. Wheelersburg lead after one at 4-3, increasing that lead to 9-3 after 2 innings. Minford comes back with five runs in the bottom of the 4th to pull within one at 9-8. The Burg put one up in the 5th and two in the sixth but it was not enough as Minford tallied five in the bottom of the 6th to pull out the 13-12 victory. I thought both teams used about 4 pitchers each. The support for both of these teams was tremendous tonight. Minford and Wheelersburg now play tomorrow at 8:00 for the District 11 Championship and the right to advance to Ashtabula for the State Tournament. Good Luck to both the Falcons and Pirates!

I think they pulled their pitcher after Minford scored 5 runs to make it 9-8 burg. As far as the outfield being particularly deep I didn't notice but it may have been justified. Minford has a few deep ball hitters and it is better to give up one run by keeping it in front of you than to give up maybe 3 if it gets past you. Minford seemed to be hitting those looping shots just over the infield though. Great ballgame. The kids on both teams never quit. should be exciting tonight. good luck to both teams.

You are absolutely right Tobias--the outfield should have played up in that situation. Give an E to the coaches. I didn't understand why all the pitching changes on either team. I think Minford made a switch in the 6th that seemed to hurt their momentum. I heard Minford started their ace but I think he was a little tense at the start--maybe went one or two innings. It's a lot of pressure on these young fellows when they get this far. I noticed a little more errors on both infields that have otherwise been solid. Nerves, age, new situations. I think both of those teams match up well and it should be an excellent championship game. good luck to all.

little thing called a pitch count and who was allowed to pitch because of number of pitches previously thrown in prior game

pitch count? If you pitch 20 pitches the previous game your done for the next--1 day rest. What I saw was both teams burn pitchers that could be used today. just "a little" thing called an observation.

Both team had pitch count issues. I was always led to believe that you pitch for the current game because if you don't tomorrows game may not happen.

All of the young men in this game played a great game of baseball.

Tonight will be a very exciting game. I would to expect to see packed stands again!!!

listen i'm as competitive as it gets, been there and done this, and looking back I feel there can be burnout at the higher levels do to so much intensity at the LL levels in all sports, this doesn't go for everybody and really there can't be nothing done about it for it's just the way it is. JMO

Burgs first pitcher did have a 9 to 3 lead when he went out, but Im not sure what his pictch count was.

Minfords starter did struggle in the first inning, but also, he got hit in the leg with a hard line drive in the second, that may have had something to do with him being taken out.

bottom line, it was a great game, and both teams will play again tonight...should be another dandy.

best of luck to all the kids.

if you pitch 20 pitches or less you can pitch the next day, 21 pitches not 20 require rest , just a little tidbit to chew on

I already knew that, I just didnt know how many pitches he threw...my guess is, the starter was way past 2, it was around the 4th inning when he was taken out.

Im not questioning the coaches, thats why tghey are coaches, to make the decisions on the field..they know their kids better then I do.

CONGRATS to the Minford boys on their defeat of the Burg team to force tonights game. Minford pitched 3 pitchers and the Burg 4. It will be interesting to see who both teams have left to pitch after last nights game. Anyway, Minford never quit, never gave up and fought and scratched their way to victory. Minford was tight in the beginning but had no trouble hitting Burgs 4 pitchers. Burg has a base stealing system that Minford needs to pay more attention too. They try to bait you into throwing the ball to second when they have a runner on third through a run down. When the pitcher throws the ball to second for the easy out they send the runner from third to home. It works really well. But, if the Minford pitcher would get on the rubber with the ball all runners need to be on a base by then. Good luck Falcons!!
