i think it was 16-7 in 6 innings. just when you thought the burg was going to put it away minford kept battling back. great job by both teams and good luck to the pirates in the state tourney. i think they will represent dist. 11 well. does anyone know a contact to give a contribution to the team for travel expences? i think we should help them out because if i understood it right the state tourney starts saturday.

The game last night went 6 innings. I think the score was 16-7. Minford again did not quit, they battled to the end. The boys had a wonderful season to be proud of. They accomplished a lot for a team that only practiced together for a few weeks.
Baseball has its highs and lows remember the highs and be proud of yourselves. Here are some of the high points that I will remember:

Jared Alley - over the fence homerun against Coal Grove -great plays behind the plate.
Devon Applegate - yesterdays fly ball catch -pretty bunt against Cheasapeake.
Jacob Branch - beautiful stop at second yesterday.
Tyler Compton - good solid substitution play - we'll be pulling for you to lead the 9-10 years olds next year.
Eric Cook - 2 great pitching starts against Cheasapeake (a shut out ) and Portsmouth (gave up only 2 runs)
Eli Daniels - Pitched great against Wheelersburg Monday night- couldn't ask for better first base play -awesome.
Eli Fitch- Great catch in the outfield Monday night- super throws in from the outfield to hold the runners.
Samuel Frazie- good second base and outfield play through out the tournament.
Trey Kelley- crushed the ball in several games.
Cody Kennedy- throwing the runner out at home in the win against Wheelersburg- having some of our infield defensive highlights.
Jacob Perry - knocked in the game winning run against Wheelersburg - played some solid innings behind the plate.
Alex Powell - threw two strikeouts for the save against Portsmouth (the knuckle ball)- sliding across the plate for that game winning run against Wheelersburg.
Mark Turner - go to base runner through out the tournament.

As you can tell it was a good team effort by all the boys. We are proud of all of you.

I would also like to add to Baseball's comments. Way to go Mighty Minford boys! They only came together as a team for the tournament run. They had a great run and were runners-up in the D-11. If this team played together all year like some teams do they would not have been beaten. The ten 10 year olds on this team will be great next year as a team and will probably be very dominate. The three 9 year olds on the team gained valuable experience for next year and this will give them the leadership skills to finish what was started this year. Things look very bright for the future in baseball at Minford. There is alot of great players who didn't even make the all-star team this year who will be ready next year. I am proud of the Minford boys. 16 teams started and only two were left and they both had one lose apiece. It was a great run and something to build on.

What are you trying to say here? If this was a Little League sanctioned tourney, and I'm sure it was since the Pirates won District 11 which is Little League sanctioned, then all of the kids had to participate in Little League during the regular season in their own schools area and play against other teams in their league and then the best kids from each league were picked for All Stars. Are you trying to say that one school had only one 9-10 year old team that played together all season and traveled to play ball? I don't think you can do that at this level unless things have changed since I coached Little League just a few years back. I'm fairly sure that Wheelersburg had more than one 9-10 year old team in their league so if you are refering to them playing together all season I believe you are wrong. Please enlighten us as to what you mean.

Congrats to the boys 9-10 year old District 11 champs, the Wheelersburg Pirates!!!!! I believe that's 4 or 5 districts won by Wheelersburg this season in both boys and girls competition.

Wheelersburg had five (5) 9 and 10 year old teams. The all stars have representatives from each of the teams. I also was curious as to who he was talking about playing together all season or at least clarify he was not talking about Wheelersburg specifically.

I think Marshallman means some smaller leagues only have one team. These teams play interleague (other leagues that do not have 4 teams). When tournament starts these teams do not vote for All-Stars,they just play with this same team.

Wheelersburg won every District boys championship (besides Sr League, no team) Jr League,Little League, 10-11 year old, and 9-10 year old.

Wheelersburg Softball Had 2 District Championships, Little League and 10-11 year old, 1 District runner up Jr League, and 1 3rd place finish 9-10.

Wheelersburg should be very proud of their teams.

Thank you sports junky! I don't understand why everytime someone raves about their team that just played the burg their fans have to read something into it. If burg grad 77 needs me to spell it out for him it means that I wish Minford had played together as a team longer. Minford had 4 teams that they picked the best players from and brought them together too. Some schools try to keep the best players on the same team under the same coach every year and some schools only have their one team. This does happen and its legal to do this, NO BIGGIE! I was not pointing the finger at any certain teams but I do know this happens and it can help with team chemistry.

Well obviuosly it didn't since both teams in the finals, Wheelersburg and Minford, picked their All Stars from multiple teams within thier local legaues. So whatever team you were refering to as palying together all season and having great team chemistry obviously didn't gain any advantage from it. I guess I'm just confused as to just exactly what you were insinuating.

NO BIGGIE!

I would like to say I saw alot from the boys teams--we know what we have at the burg but Minford had some really promising ball players. Daniels, Kelly(kelley?), Fitch, Kennedy, and the other big boy--Allen or Alley stood out to me and my crowd the 3 times we played. I just wanted to give a little recognition to a good ball club. good luck next season. Go Pirates at state tourney!

Alley got the only out of park homerun of the tournament....How great for a 10 year old.
