Gallipolis junior high teams split with Logan

Gallia Academy’s junior high basketball teams split a pair of hardwood games with visiting Logan on the Washington Hardwood Thursday evening.
In the opener, Luke Eberhard’s trifecta with 6.2 seconds remaining gave the Gallia 7th graders a 47-46 triumph over the Little Chieftains.

The victory left Gallipolis 6-4 on the year, and avenged a 42-25 setback to Logan at Logan in the 2007-08 season opener.

Logan dropped to 8-2 on the year. Only other team to down the Logan 7th graders this winter was Warren Local in the third game of the year

Gallipolis trailed 12-6 after one period, 20-16 at halftime and 31-28 going into the fourth period. At one point in the final stanza, Logan held an eight point lead, 44-36. Gallipolis outscored the Chiefs, 19-15 in the final period to cop the victory.

Next Gallipolis game is a makeup contest with Meigs at Meigs on Jan. 22. Logan will meet Chillicothe in its next game.

In the nightcap, Gallipolis’ 8th grade held eight point leads two or three times, but a meltdown in the final quarter gave Logan a thrilling 59-57 triumph.

Logan improved to 7-3 on the year. GAHS dropped to 2-8. Logan won the season opener over Gallia 45-44 at Logan.

Thursday, Gallia led 18-12, after one quarter, 34-28 at halftime, but trailed 45-42 going into the final per the final whistle. Logan built up a nine point lead midway through the final period, but Gallipolis came back to pull within two points before the final whistle.

In a freshman game on the GAHS hardwood, Athens came from behind to defeat Gallipolis by three points. The GAHS frosh dropped to 4-8 on the year.
