none of the above....... PIKETON is top of the list then Ironton, Burg in no particular order those 2 seem to be pretty even.
Piketon is LOADED 4 players from last yr started in the 8th grade and heldback and 5 starters from last yrs 7th grade on the team and they are all excellent players. And I am not from piketon this is totally an unbiased opinion.
If a team plays Piketon within 20 this yr. they should be considered a good team.

Ironton, Burg, Piketon in that order..but from what I have heard Burgs scrimage yesterday was a good one with Ironton and can play them tough and close and could go either way..JMO I would love to see these 3 schools and throw in Peebles 8th grade team play in a Tourny.. I bet every game no matter who matched up against who would be a close and hard fought game..All of these schools have outstanding 8th grade basketball teams and any of the 4 could beat each other if they played one another..And I have saw Piketon and Peebles play, and they are all evenly matched ball clubs..

There are so many 8th grade teams in southeastern ohio that are very strong. We simply won't find out who truly is the best due to most schedules carrying league games only and that the ohsaa only allows 17 games per year. I think that is wrong for middle school teams to be restricted to that minumum number of games. Here are some in my opinion that would be on that list, in no perticular order.
Wheelersburg
Peebles
Vinton County
Piketon
Ironton
Jackson
Logan
Unioto
Warren
Good luck to everyone this season.

Have watched Wheelersburg, Eastern and Piketon. Piketon is better than both teams, to strong, to fast, to big, to talented, and to much depth. And if Ironton isnt better than burg which they split their scrimmage they are better than them also.

Didnt Burg play Piketon @ the Piketon Shootout over the summer, with both clubs basic starting 5 for this year playing..?
This is what i have been told and Im sure I will get corrected if Im wrong but Burg beat Piketon in that game..Everyone has there opinion about whos better than who and all that, I just think its great that southern Ohio has some great and talented ball clubs in this area and alot of schools have some up and coming talented ball players that should make for southern Ohio to be represented well by all schools at the Convo in the near future!! Good luck to all the area ball clubs on your up coming season..Vinton County need mentioned among these teams as well a good ,solid ball club..

Vinton County handled NY two times last year. They beat 'Burg by 3 at the Piketon shootout and lost to Piketon by 2, (i think), and were missing 2 starters and 2 key bench players from last years squad. VC does not hold back players for athletic purposes. All of the players are true 8th graders. I would love to see them play Ironton. The way things are set up with the different divisions, these boys will more than likely never play each other.
The best of luck to all the kids playing middle school basketball this year.
It is the best season of the year; it is basketball season!

I don't understand your point here. Most teams return a good portion of the team from the year before. That's how you build your ball club looking ahead to high school. Not that it matters, but there are two players on the 8th grade team who are different from last year. And didn't someone above post that there are four returning players on the 8th grade team at Piketon?
If that is the case then they shouldn't even be considered when talking about "the best" team in the area. Hold back your kids for sports much?

Unioto.
They are a team full of kids who are in their 2nd year in JH basketball, not 3rd. Went undefeated last season, but lost by 3 to Piketon last week.
