Gallipolis sweeps twinbill from South Point

Playing their third road game in a week, the Gallipolis 7th and 8th grade basketball teams won a twinbill at South Point Monday evening.

In the opener, Gallipolis’ 7th graders remained unbeaten in three starts with a 34-31 victory over the Little Pointers.

Gallipolis led 9-6, 22-14 and 28-23 at the quartermarks although South Point grabbed a 31-30 lead late in the game.

For the winners, Brian Williams tossed in eight points. Four other Blue Devils had six points apiece—Wade Jarrell, Teran Barnitz, Jarrett Martin, and Wade Martin.

Z. Alberts had eight points for South Point. J. Williams added seven.

South Point dropped its first game and is 2-1 on the year. GAHS improved to 3-0, and will be on the road again Thursday with a game at Jackson.

In the nightcap, Gallipolis blanked the Pointers 7-0 after one period, but the home team outscored Gallipolis 10-4 in the second stanza to narrow the gap to 11-10. The Little Blue Devils outscored the hosts 15-4 in the third period to take a 26-14 lead into the final quarter. Final score was 34-20, GAHS.

For the winners, now 2-1, Nick Clagg tallied nine points, Justin Bailey seven and Jim Clagg six while R. J. McCardy led South Point, now 0-1, with 14 markers.

Coach Jim Niday emptied his Blue Devil bench with 2:11 remaining in the game. Gallipolis will be on the road for the fourth straight time Thursday with a contest at Jackson.

First home game will be Monday, Dec. 13, against Logan.
