Gallipolis Junior High teams sweep Meigs, 48-28, 54-38

Gallia Academy High School’s 7th and 8th grade basketball teams swept a double header from visiting Meigs Wednesday evening on the Washington School hardwood.

In the first game, Gallipolis downed Meigs 48-28 for its eighth victory against no setbacks. Meigs dropped to 3-3 on the year. In the nightcap, Gallipolis tripped the Little Marauders, 54-38, leaving them 7-1 on the year. Meigs dropped to 2-4.

Gallipolis will host Jackson in a twinbill Monday, beginning at 5:30 p.m. on the Washington hardwood and travel to Logan on Wednesday for doubleheader.

After a 7-7 tie in the first period of the 7th grade game, Gallipolis outscored the Little Marauders 13-7 to take a 20-14 halftime lead. The Blue Devils led 36-21 after three quarters.

GAHS placed three players in double figures, led by Terance Barnitz’s 14 points. Brian Williams and Logan Allison added 10 each for the winners, Wade Martin six and Seth Atkins four. Hutton paced Meigs with 12points. Rowe added five and Blankenship four.

In the nightcap, GAHS jumped out in front 6-0 early in the game, and led 14-7 at the first break. GAHS led 29-13 at halftime, but Meigs came back in the third quarter to outscore the Blue Devils 15-10 to reduce the deficit to 39-28. GAHS outscored the visitors 15-10 in the final stanza.

Ten Gallipolis players scored in the victory, led by Nick Clagg, Justin Bailey and Jim Clagg, all with 10 points points each. Cody Call added seven, Bobby Dunlap four, Caleb Campbell three, Brandon Long, T. J. McCulley, Jeremy Wilson, and Austin Lewis two each.

D. Boyer led Meigs with 18 points. D. Ulbright had seven.
