Gallipolis junior high teams split with Chillicothe

Host Gallipolis split a twinbill with visiting Chillicothe on the Washington School hardwood Tuesday evening.

In the first battle, Chillicothe snapped Gallipolis’ nine-game winning streak, 35-19, and in doing so, handed the Little Devils their first setback of the season. The win also avenged Chillicothe’s only loss of the year. Gallipolis beat the Little Cavs at Chillicothe 37-24 on Dec. 18.

Gallipolis dropped to 9-1 on the year. Chillicothe improved to 7-1 on the season.

Gallipolis led 7-2 after one period, and 13-12 during intermission. However, the visitors forged ahead 18-17 after three periods, then outscored GAHS 17-2 in the final quarter to win going away.

For Chillicothe, R. Mathais and J. Johnson each had 10 points. P Nicely had eight points. Logan Allison scored eight points for the Gallians.

In the nightcap, the Gallipolis 8th graders downed Chillicothe 41-32 to post their ninth win against one setback. CHS dropped to 1-7 overall.

Gallipolis led 13-4, 31-19 and 38-29 at the quartermarks.

T. Beard paced CHS with nine points. T. Beverly added eight and D. Binder seven.

For GAHS, Jim Clagg scored 15 points, Nick Clagg 10 and Austin Lewis eight.

Both Gallipolis teams will host Pt. Pleasant Thursday The 7th grade tilt will start at 5:30 p.m.

Gallipolis has two makeup games on the road, at Logan and at Jackson.
