What can we expect from the junior high Flyers this year? I understand that their class size will permit a good looking squad this year? Who do the Flyers normally play? I am asking because a kid I know transfered in to St. Joe this year and will be in the 7th grade and I would like to catch a couple of his games.

The junior high Flyers will be very inexperienced this season. Also, to the best of my knowledge, the class size is not very large (even by St. Joe standards). Let's hope the 7th grade transfer has some height and experience.

The current transfer is going into the 7th grade, very short but very athletic. I have seen him play and I have coached him one year, he ran point. He is also very good in soccer. I know of one more that is considering transfering to St. Joe he also would be in the 7th grade, and lives to play basketball. I know this kid pretty well also, he already knows most of the 7th and 8th grade kids at St Joe. all this boy plays is basketball, summer league, fall league and school ball. He is long and lanky I'm guessing around 5'8"-5'10", 105-110 lbs and all arms and legs. :-D

St. Joe will be thrilled to have him.

Yes, St. Joe will be tickled to have both transfers. Are they coming in from Rock Hill? I know Rock Hill had a real good 6th grade all-star team last year. Also, what is the motivation for the transfer? ... family ties? playing time? school board?

Yes, both are from Rock Hill. In talking to the parents of both one has ties to St. Joe and the parents of the other say it is for education reasons. The second of the two did play and start for the 6th grade tournament team from Rock Hill. I saw several of their games and he is a pretty good player and in knowing both families I think St. Joe would enjoy both kids.

I really hate to see them leave RH. I hope that instead of people getting upset at them for leaving, they will try to talk them into staying. I have tried and I hope more people from RH will do the same. I know it's only junior high but it does matter.

Grass isn't always greener on the other side. If someone wanted to leave then they should go and if things are better then great, I wouldn't want to talk someone in to staying because that is "selfish". Let them go and RH basketball will be fine. I think people have coached their kids for so long that their scared that they won't start or get playing time in Jr. High when it comes down to a coach fielding the team and not a parent. Let the kids earn their spot!!! I dont know alot about the 6th grade team or whose playing 7th grade, but I know there are more basketball players in 7th grade then was on that travel team and I know a few of them are ready to earn their position.

Softball10 you are real piece of work. It is not "selfish" to care about the future of RH's high school basketball team and good athletes leaving RH. Some seem to forget it is about a "team" not "me"!!!!!!!! Maybe this opens up a spot for your son...... :122248

Have the potential transfers registered for school at St. Joe? If so, soccer practice has started. This would be a great way for these kids to get to know their new classmates in a setting outside the classroom. Also, the team would be much better off if they participated.

Ya got a schedule for that soccer squad, Lloyd? Da boy wants to go watch that Payton kid own the pitch.

You know I do. I just don't have it with me today. Stay tuned.

I know you are a big fan of the kick ball game. As a matter of fact, John Schwab still refers to the years that Pocket Aces coached soccer as the "Golden Years" of Ironton soccer.

That is the problem these days, to many transfers.. No loyalty what so ever to any school. OHSAA is more and more like the NBA every year.

I wouldn't get too excited there Runner00. Neither of these kids are playing soccer, and I doubt their transfer to St. Joe will affect the balance of power in basketball in the OHSAA. Also, if you read the above posts you will notice that the transfers have more to do with academics than sports.

I had a talk with papa Scott at the OVC preveiws, and he said that he tried to get his son to go out for soccer. Maybe next year, Said the boys been hitting the vertimax pretty hard at Ironton rehab, getting real close to the rim. Worked all summer on his jumpshot playing at CK may play in Spring Valley tourney. says he is loving the new school and getting ready for b-ball.
