I am not a president, but I have a few suggestions that may or may not come up at the meeting for things to tweek for the 2010 season.

1. As far as the weight limit goes, linebackers and secondary on defense should have to follow the same guidlines as the backs. Having 200 pounders line up and rush the line from 5 yards back although it is football, should not be allowed. If so the offense should be allowed to put a big boy at full back to meet these big kids to protect the TB/QB.

2. For the 5th and 6th grade. I noticed last year that when a team punts it is a deadball until the punt is away. This is fine, however most teams lineup as if they are covering a kickoff and not a punt. Most punts are not very far at this age and the return man usually does not get a shot at it. I believe that the kicking team should line up as they will in the older grades. Everyone in tight with the exception of 2 gunners. Of course this would still be a dead ball until the kick is away. The kids would learn more from this as opposed to getting no return at all, and just flying down the field.

3. My son plays varsity but played JV last year. I know it is hard to get all the games in during the day, but I don't think it is fair to the kids, coaches that work so hard through the week and their games are as short as they are. Run the clock properly or add time.

4. Referring to the last suggestion, if time is a factor in getting the games in have the JV play at one site and the Varisty at another site. I know parents have kids playing both age groups, but none of us travel very far and this could be accomplished by just taking a minute to work the schedule.

5. Give some type of ID tag, or patch to the coaches and league officials. ALL OTHERS OFF THE FIELD. This should be enforced. The only place I see a problem with it is behind Notre Dame High School, unless they will play their games in Spartan this year. The kids on the sideline can't even see the game because of the parents on the sidelines.

6. Weigh ins. League president or designee to do the weigh ins. After finished make a master copy and issue to each team. If a kid is in question they must be weighed in before a game. Maybe a better way to do it. I know this came into question many times last year.

7. Age... Is there and age limit? If so it needs to be taken care of before the season starts.

These are just suggestions. I think some of them need to be taken care of before it starts to cut down on the accusations.

Just call it how I see it. The league wasn't too shabby, the season was just pushed to quick. Everyone talks tough on keeping nonessential people away from the field of play, but never see them enforcing it. And just so the rumors don't start this year about a kid being 11 pushing 12 playing 4th grade make the rules clear to the coaches so they can pass the word. Just suggestions.

Agree, that's why I think we are trying to get a jump on things, get rules straight, etc I'm glad that all local teams are trying to work together.that way we all aren't hanging when kickoff comes.

We don't need to rule the league to death, but some things are apparent. I saw alot of coaches scratching their heads at the beggining of the season.

I heard that Northwest was wanting in our league. Any truth to that? I think it would be a good thing, with Burg doing there own thing at the 5th and 6th grade level. We need a couple more teams at both levels. 1 or 2 more games would not hurt, I don't like teams from the same school playing each other in Football. I feel it takes away from the game. Just me thinking outloud again. I know it is the beggining of summer but I am always ready for football. Should be another exciting year for football in scioto county from the pee wee league to the high school level.

Nw is in. We can start practice last week of July, I believe and pads 1st week of Aug. Ill double check. Weight is 115/135 and age limit is can't be 11 by sep 1 for 3/4th and cant be 13 by sep 1 for 5/6. Matt Hammer is the prez he is also Prez of East league. There will be 9 3/4 teams, not sure about 5/6. Nw has 1 3/4 team and 2 5/6 teams.

We are going by age as far as I know. I have a player who will be in 5th but he is on our 4th grade team.

Which makes sense because I am sure there are 11 year olds in 4th grade that will have to play in 5th/6th.

We are also going to have an id badge for coaches. Each team is allowed max of 4 coaches on the sideline/filed.

I read that 3rd/4th grade can have 2 coaches. And the question was asked if a 7th grader was young enough could he play 6th grade. I am not the one making decisions but I would say no. If a kid is playing down instead of up it isn't helping him any. People are gonna question this to death, I say it is a great rule. Then you don't have a manchild playing 4th grade football. So much for the reshirting idea!

I know we can have 2 on field and I am pretty sure we said 4 total at the meeting. I also think that if a kid is in Jr.High, the school steps in and they can only play 7/8. But we wouldn't let them , I already checked. I also need to double check about coaches on field for 5/6, I don't think you have let them in the past? Holler if you want me to run down the meeting.

Haven't allowed coaches on the field for 5th and 6th in the past. And just my opinion on the age thing. It is definitely a good thing. If a kid is 13 before Sep. 1st he should not be playing pee wee. Sorry for those that have held them back, but that is too old to be playing 9 and 10 year old 5th graders. I understand what you are saying about the kid that is in 5th and is 10 and only played 1 year, but I feel they should only play up and not down. If you have a 4th grade 10 year old that can play 5th grade ball due to size or ability I see it being ok. I guess it is a double edge sword, but will keep the playing field more even.

We had a discussion about this last night. Suppose someone wanted to stack a team and use their whole team from last year who are all 10, they would roll!! But also if the boy who is 10, and in 5th grade and moves up but he has only played 1 year , there are possibly some boys who have played 4,5 years already of pee wee, so is that fair? I don't really know the solution, no big deal, as long as we make it fair. What about a 5th grader who is 9? does he have to play up? I just want to be fair for all, I think this year it seems everyone is trying to get it right. did we have these issues when we played pee wee? lol

If they are all 10 and going into the 5th grade that would be lucky to win 6 games against 6th graders but if they were playing 4th grade that would not be right. Speaking of the playing up thing if he is 9 and a 5th grader he is a young 5th grader who will be 10 before school starts, so he should have to play with his age meaning 5th grade. There are alot of variable in this but it is a good thing. I just hope that it is all in black and white before we start. This was started to be a good thing, and I still think it is. We just need to make sure it is fair for the majority. Up tp the 7th grade a kid should play by school age rules per grade. Once they hit Jr. High most that have played even if younger can protect themselves.
