Who will have some of the best boys 7th and 8th grade teams this year. I know westerns 8th grade will have a shot at going undefeated. The seventh grade will struglle for a while but hopefully can improve throughout the year if they are coached up.

I think clay 8th grade has a great chance at going undefeated the boys have been working at it all summer and they are pumped and ready for the season to start already.

Clay has a nice 8th grade team and i really like there coach. That being said western spanked them at home and lost by two on the road when a last second shot didnt go down with the shanks kid not playing one minute. They will not beat western this year. So that right there is two losses.

You are so right GOINDIANS, at least about Coach Compton. However the score at Western was something like 41-33, not a "spanking" as you say. Also Clay was without their star point guard, Phipps. In game two at Rubyville, Clay was without one of their big men, Hines who is a scorer off the bench. We love coach C around here because of his love for the kids, sometimes tough love. He will have them ready for all games, but mostly he will have them ready for high school, just ask him!

You are so right jake the boys love coach compton hes a great coach he really knows what hes talking about. But the way I hear things is that the hines boy isn't going to be playing this year and neither is swayne but the team gained a player that is a very good shooter and will be a great addition to the team hes just as good as Hines if not then he is better. but all the starters from last year are returning (Phillips, Phipps, Hurt, Smith, and Wallburn) I can't wait to see how this season goes phipps and phhilps shooting has inproved greatly over the summer. Hurt suffered an ankle injury but he has fully recorvered and he has gotten alot better over the summer in his deffense and his premiter shooting. Smtih has gotten more aggesive. Wallburn has improved in the post. This season should be very intresting.

Was it Swayne or Smith, the skinny dark haired boy that started? Why wouldn't he play? They all seemed to get a boat load of PT.

Seriously? I really thought that all those boys played quite a lot. I really don't buy that excuse, that team overachieved in several games when they were either over matched, or under manned. I may call coach about his thoughts on this to see his opinion.

Here is straight from the horse's mouth, coach Compton didn't know anything about any of the boys playing, or not playing. He said Clay had a pretty good off season conditioning for the Jr. high, and was looking forward to the upcoming season. He was tore up about the Pendleton boy getting hurt Friday night, they are distant relation, so he wasn't in much of a talking mood. I really like the guy, he is as real as it gets. Don't ask him something that you don't want to hear, he will tell you!

I was there at both games and I remember two spankings. That was the 8th grade Clay team beating the Indians. The 7th grade Clay team lost to the Indains but it was no spanking. The night Clay won all I heard from the Indians was excuses for the loss, and once again the Indians are making up excuses for the loss now. It was a loss!!! Take it for what it was!!! Clay boys did and did something about it!! I wouldn't count out the incoming 8th grade Clay team. From what I've heard they have played all summer long together and they have some new talent coming in. It should be interesting year. GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE TEAMS!!!

Maybe we just have a differnet idea of the definition of spanking. Went back and checked. THe first game at western the indians were up 29 at the half and didnt play its starters in the second half and won by 8. To me that is a spanking. To each his own.

Number one the starters for western did go back into the game. Yes they were down by alot at the half but they made a great come back.

Western and Clay both have good teams. Probably will be some good games this year. Eastern is also improving. My take on Western is alot of kids held back or kids maturing early. This can catch up in high school. Just not many late bloomers on this team. That is why it is so important not to rely on one class to much. Kids in front and behind good classes usually have to contribute. Where would Western have been without Shanks, Smithson et al when McCloud and White were there a few years back?

Teamwork I agree with you. Eastern last year moved up alot of their 7th graders to the 8th grade team and they held their own against Clay's 8th grade big boys. I know a few of the incoming 7th graders this year and they will be a force. Brandon R. will be leading them all. He is a great ball handler and there is a few others that will make it tuff on other teams. I can't wait to see them play. GOOD LUCK to all the SOC 1 teams. I love to see all the schools in this division to have great, close games.

Easterns 8th grade well be better this year . they should be able to compete better with Clay and Western . The Eagles biggest challenge will be for all the boys to put it together nite in and nite out . Eastern has 3 pg in there starting line up T.Creech is fastest kid in league and he is also one of best on boards . J.Thacker has good shot and has very quick hands whoever he guards he causes fits. A.Creech prolly best shot on team and wit sidekick C.Cantrell most aggressive to bucket and on defense. Both of these bigs will pick up alot of boards as long as there aggressive style dont get them in foul trouble .
