I agree 100%, and if a team is at its best the assist and rebounds will be the top # not the scoring. Good point.

South Point I believe is 2-2 with 20+point wins over Gallia and Portsmouth. Losses were Coal Grove (30+) and Fairland(Fairland hit 3 at buzzer to win it).

Dec. 30. Coal Grove beat Minford 53-19. Hornets are now 5-1. I think Minford's record is 4-2.

With CG losing to Fairland and Ironton beating Fairland looks like our Tigers hold the top 7th grade team in southern Ohio this year.

CG benched 3 starters for 1st half against Fairland. Down 20 at half and closed to within 5 late, but couldn't get over the top. Can't wait for rematch. Both teams pretty good, but i believe CG the stronger team. Large had an off night but is a beast of a player. CG not extremely well coached IMO.

So burg has no chance against Ironton on the 11th?

Any team can beat anybody. Just based on last yr. CG handled Burg fairly easy based on scores I seen and the 1 time I seen them play. Plus we are a lot better this year than last. Not just skill wise but personnel changes too. But that being said. Burg will be the last test of the year to answer who's the best 7th team IMO.

Comparing scores doesn't always give you a true gage as to who is better. But it is fun to do. For example: I was told that Minford lost to Burg by 7 points and I know that CG beat Minford by 24 points. Does this logic mean that CG is 17 points better than Burg? Doubt it. CG is 5-1. All five wins were by 20 points or more as they beat Buffalo, Wayne Co., South Point, Chesapeake and Minford. (Doesn't sound like coaching is an issue.) Coal Grove beat South Point by more than 20. South Point lost to Fairland by only 3 points and Fairland beats Coal Grove. Yes Coal Grove sat out some players. In fact they sat out 7 players the first half but the facts are Fairland won and Coal Grove will have to wait till Fairland comes to Coal Grove to try and get some redemption. It's all interesting. It would be great if Burg, Ironton, Fairland and Coal Grove could all play each other. But some schedules are made out in advance and the OHSAA limits Jr High to 16 games and one tournament. Regardless; I love my Hornets. Good luck boys.

Like I said early on, Ironton and Coal Grove are probably the tops even yet today. I would put Burg next and Fairland close behind. That said, no one will ever know this year. Next year things will change a bit with the Ovc changing, however, hopefully burg continues to play all three of the others as it always makes for good matchups. Burg could win on their given night as Fairland. They showed it against Coal Grove. Personnel wise, I believe Ironton has came the furthest this year in large strides and may be the favorite in my opinion right now..only because three unbeatens haven't challenged them into the second half. Irontons 7th played the 2nd quarter against Fairlands 8th to a 5-5 tie. Had they not missed two bunnies and two free throws they would have led. Its all how teams match up. I believe it has been a fun season so far this year, and look for much more excitement!!

Just wondering why CG sat out 7 players and who were they?

It is understandable why one would be curious as to why but I believe that is a team issue and should remain that way. I also do not believe it appropriate for the boys' names be posted. The boys took their punishment and sat on the bench and cheered for their teammates that were on the floor. I don't think that any athlete's name should be mention unless we are saying something positive about them and even then it should be done with caution. Certainly not trying to disrespect the poster who was curious with this response. As I said, it is understandable why one would be curious.

Didn't mean any disrespect to team or players. Actually, the opposite. Seen the team play last year and very impressed with their talent. Even more impressed with their understanding of the game as 6th graders. Impressed by a coach that would sit out 7 players for a half against a squad like Fairland. A lot of coaches would wait and do that against a team not as strong as that or not start them and put them in after first deadball. Thought them to be best team in area last year and still think they are this year.
