While some business owners threaten to cut workers' hours to avoid paying for their health care, a West Palm Beach, Fla., restaurant owner is going even further. John Metz said he will add a 5 percent surcharge to customers' bills to offset what he said are the increased costs of Obamacare, along with reducing his employees' hours.
"If I leave the prices the same, but say on the menu that there is a 5 percent surcharge for Obamacare, customers have two choices. They can either pay it and tip 15 or 20 percent, or if they really feel so inclined, they can reduce the amount of tip they give to the server, who is the primary beneficiary of Obamacare," Metz told The Huffington Post. "Although it may sound terrible that I'm doing this, it's the only alternative. I've got to pass the cost on to the consumer."
Metz is the franchisor of Hurricane Grill & Wings, which has 48 locations, five of which are corporate owned, and president and owner of RREMC Restaurants, which runs approximately 40 Denny's and several Dairy Queen locations. He planned to use the 5 percent surcharge tactic in all his restaurants starting in January 2014, when Obamacare is fully implemented.

Re: Places surcharge to cover Obamacare cost
You're whining. Common sense tells you that if you increase taxes or fees on businesses they in turn will do a couple things, raise prices, cut hours, or lay people off. Now you are whining because they are doing what common sense says they will do. So I was just putting blame squarely on the shoulders of the men who caused this problem. Not the hard working business owners nOr the hard working employees that are being harmed, but the great liberal minds who wanted change. You wanted it and now we all will have to live with the consequences of your ill-informed actions.

And if you research this further, you will find that the corporate headquarters of the franchises this guy owns are distancing themselves from his comments.

nybuckeyes96-Tell my stepson to quit whining as he is losing his job because of obamacare. His employer either pays for obamacare or pays $1,200.00 a year fine for each employee. The alternative is employee less people to offset the cost. Worst health care ( TAX ) plan in history. Wait until it takes full effect.

A brief history of corporate whining:
1842: If workers can legally strike, no business will be able to survive!
1887: Give blacks an entire dollar for a days labor? Might as well burn my business to the ground!
1912: Worker deaths are tragic, but anti-sweatshop laws would be the death of industry in America!
1915: When workers can't be fired for joining a union, how can anyone stay in business?
1924: Banning child labor would destroy the economy!
1938: We can't have a forty hour work week, because if we do there'll be no employers left to hire anyone!
1964: Equal pay for women and negroes? Business can't stay afloat if federal regulations strangle us!
1970: Health and safety laws are a formula for massive permanent unemployment!
2012: If the new labor rights law passes, then business is doomed! Doooomed!

Re: Places surcharge to cover Obamacare cost
Corporations aren't whining at all. They will lay off/fire/not hire and do whatever they need to do to make as much or more money than they are now. May not be right thats the way it works. Does anyone think making the rich pay more actually helps the working man. NO! Prices raise to offset what extra they have to pay. This is not brain surgery.

This Obama Care is like buying an expensive car you can't afford on deferred payments. Everything is honky dory until you have to make the first one. It was ill-conceived and rushed to passage without even being read. It might be one thing to not read the fine print when you're buying, say a stereo but when you don't read it when you push something through that is going to cost so much of other people's money, that is without excuse

And that ideology is why the Republican's are losing face (and elections) in America! Let them eat cake!kantuckyII wrote:"If I leave the prices the same, but say on the menu that there is a 5 percent surcharge for Obamacare, customers have two choices.
