Ohio tax plan hits concerts, sports, even bowling
TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Gov. John Kasich's plan to expand Ohio's sales tax might take some of the fun out of going to concerts, high school football games and amusement parks.
Kasich wants to cut the state's overall sales-tax rate while also applying the lower 5% tax on new items like bowling alleys, pool halls, circuses and arcade games.
Admission to fairs, museums, and theme parks would come under Ohio's sales tax for the first time. So would tickets to pro, college and high school games.
The question facing Ohio's entertainment and sports operators is whether they would pass the costs onto ticket buyers and customers if lawmakers approve the plan.
The Republican governor says it brings fairness to Ohio's tax rates. Opponents say it's the wrong time to widen the sales tax.

Replacing indexed income taxes with regressive sales taxes is a bad idea all around. Country Club tax cut!
Re: Kasich: Sales Tax should apply to high school football g
Cutting funding for schools then taxing sporting events. Most schools do not make enough money to fund all of their programs. Now schools will need to add extra work to paying a sales tax. Would the high costs of parking also be taxed?
Not knowing the answer but does any state charge taxes to high scool games?
The politicians that grew up with money in bigger cities have no understanding how a big part of the population will have to endure these unfair taxes.

Another stupid R idea ( as are most). A sales tax is regressive against the poor and Middle class. Must be time for a tax cut for the R's wealthy friends again. This guy was a huge mistake to elect. He needs to go.
When will the voting public wake up ?

More proof that the voters are getting what they deserve for putting in any member of the R OR D PARTY.

Re: Kasich: Sales Tax should apply to high school football g
I don't think many public school districts could afford to NOT pass on the cost to the public ---- look how much funding has been cut from public schools in the past few years. Most schools are already in the hole when it comes to funding their sports teams, so they would go deeper in debt if the cost wasn't passed on to the public. The question facing Ohio's entertainment and sports operators is whether they would pass the costs onto ticket buyers and customers if lawmakers approve the plan.
Now things like concerts, professional sports, etc............it's possible those costs won't be passed onto the public, but I somehow doubt that will be the case.

Mr kascich also giving one of the most well off financially school districts in the state a 331% increase, Olentangy Schools, while giving nothing to the two poorest counties in our state, lawrence and scioto. The way I understand is no law. cty schools got any raise, and only 2 of the 11 in scioto cty got a raise, but it was small. Another exmple of the Repubs taking care of the wealthy and forgetting about the poor. Pease, Ohio, wake up!! peace
Re: Kasich: Sales Tax should apply to high school football g
And yet he will do something that your ole boy Strickland could not do. And that is win 2 consecutive terms as Governor. The Dems will have no one worth running against Kasich....just like they had no one in 2010

Re: Kasich: Sales Tax should apply to high school football g
It was unusual that Ted won in the first place as Ohio is a traditionally a Rep. Govenor. And Ted was turning this state around, and only lost to John by a very small margin. I love how the rep. govenors are backsliding on their claims of not accepting Medicaid help from the feds. The Dems will find someone. I mean it is John Kascich for Goodness sake.
Re: Kasich: Sales Tax should apply to high school football g
Government employees/retires and their families stepped up during the last election to remove Strickland from office. He was a thief to all of them.
And to think that the Dems have Ed Fitzgerald being the lead Democrat going into 2014 is a joke in itself. Let alone the thoughts of Tim Ryan and Richard Cordray.
Enough said!

It is SO clear that you have NO IDEA as to what he did. Do a little research before you make a fool out of yourself.
