Should businesses be closed on holidays?
I know the bottom line is all that matters in this country when it comes to running a business but don’t you think if the government is taking the day off that all businesses should be close?
I do.
I do.

Personally, I close on holidays because I have a 24 hour line that links directly to a human if there is noone in my office. I don't think certain businesses should close, in my case, i do not have to handle claims and am encouraged not to so if there is a claim, we definately need someone to handle it, also if someone needs to make a payment that is behind. Gas stations should be opened as well for people who are traveling.

I think all businesses is a bit extreme. I'd say some places like hospitals, especially emergency rooms, gas stations, grocery stores and pharmacies might stay open due to emergency needs like food, gasoline and medicines.
Also, saying the government is taking the day off isn't 100% true. There are some government entities that don't shut down, fire departments, police departments as well as other critical services and other emergency services.
Plus, playing devil's advocate, there are also businessmen that own business that aren't religious and don't celebrate certain holidays. Why should they close for something that they don't believe?

Could we add Granny's to that list......I can think of no greater emergency on a holiday than to run out of stock............

I think it should always be up to the business to decide if they should be open or not.
Which holidays should they close on? How do you make that distinction? Should everything shut down because it is Flag Day? Or even Labor Day and Memorial Day?
I'm sure retail businesses thrive on those days when government employees are off.

I was really meaning things like stores, drive inns and things of that nature.
I never think of hospitals as a businesses but can see how you could include them.
