Freeganism

Post by mstangmom »

Oprah is talking about this today.

What is a Freegan?

Freegans are people who employ alternative strategies for living based on limited participation in the conventional economy and minimal consumption of resources. Freegans embrace community, generosity, social concern, freedom, cooperation, and sharing in opposition to a society based on materialism, moral apathy, competition, conformity, and greed

You should have seen the food they were pulling out of Grocery store dumpsters. One couple has 150 boxes of cereal they got from a dumpster at the grocery and they don't expire anytime soon.

Wonder why the grocery doesn't donate the cereal and other things to a local shelter or foodbank? That's what I thought they did with the stuff. Who knew that they just tossed it. That's crazy.

That question was asked on Oprah, the response was they do not want to be held liable if something goes wrong. it made no since top me since they were not expired.

these people will wait (they know the stores schedule) and when it is brought out and put in the dumpster they jump right in and pull it out. all kinds of fresh fruit and vegetables, boxed goods, frozen food still frozen.

one lady got 100 1lb bags of fresh coffee.

the same thing happens with clothes at the clothing store too. one lady said she has not bought clothes in 3 years but showed us clothes from a dumpster with tags still on them.

there were sheet sets, videos, games, notebooks, envelopes, the list was endless.

So in other words, they are bums and freeloaders who dumpster dive to live.

Yeah, sounds like the life for me.

Throwing perfectly good food away does not only happen in stores.

Schools in Ohio are required to have certain amounts of food on trays even if the student does not want the food.

This even happens with milk too.

We used to have an area where the kids could put the unopened milk so others could have it to drink.

We got in trouble from the state for doing that so perfectly good milk was thrown away.

I remember doing that at school also with the milk and seconds on the extra food and then you had to either buy it or they had to throw it away

Caused by the goofy frivolous lawsuits these days. Try to be nice and generous.... and end up getting sued.

Have you ever seen how much food Golden Corral throws away at the end of every day? They do save certain items for the next day (a former employee once told me what exactly, but I have forgotten :122247 ) but lots of stuff goes right into the garbage.

Probably the same thing happens at most restaurants. Seems like a major shame.

What rips my skirt is to see people take BIG heaping plates full of food and then end up throwing half or more of it away and go get something else... and do the same thing.
Not only the wastefulness of it but are they too dumb to realize that they are just causing the price to go up next time?
