Major Winter Storm this weekend
Major Winter Storm this weekend
Here is a very early update.
A strong low pressure system will develop in the gulf and track up along the eastern edge of the appalachians Friday into Saturday.
Expect rain or a rain/snow mix to develop Friday. As colder air moves in, the mixed precip will change to heavy snow Friday night. Heavy snow can continue through the day on Saturday.
My early prediction is that total accumulations by Saturday evening could range from 4 to 8 inches.

Re: Major Winter Storm this weekend
I am increasingly concerned about a major ice storm on Friday for areas just southeast of the Columbus Metro (From Chillicothe to Zanesville.
I think the precipitation will start out as rain along the Ohio River.
Then a change over to heavy snow from northwest to Southeast Friday night.

Rain changing over to snow late Friday night.

Re: Major Winter Storm this weekend
If I don't get out and put some miles in tomorrow, I'll probably be indoors until early next week..........bummer.
Re: Major Winter Storm this weekend
The newest forecast model is showing mostly a rain storm.
My excitement about this storm may die just as fast as it started

I now believe that most of the snow will stay long and northwest of Interstate 71. A major ice storm possible in the Hocking Hills.
ALL rain south and east of Logan.

Re: Major Winter Storm this weekend
The only good thing about a snow storm in March is that it rarely sticks around long - there are too many hours of daylight and the ground is rarely frozen to begin with - so it makes for a messy day or two and then it's gone. Usually - -
Remember that huge Atlantic blizard in mid-March back in the early 90's? [1993 maybe?] The snow came from the east, rather than the west as it usually does. All the east coast airports were closed from Maine to Jacksonville, Florida. I believe that weather event was "The Perfect Storm" which formed the background of the George Clooney movie.
We [meaning eastern OH] were about as far west as it reached. I think Ironton got 16+ inches in 2 days. It lasted less than a week on the ground, I think [my memory details are a little fuzzy], before it was all melted as temps rose to seasonal norms. Of course then there were flooding problems from the rapidly melting runoff.
I really don't want to see more snow, but I at least have hope that in March it isn't going to pack down, melt a little, then refreeze, and turn roads into glare ice for days and days on end!
I haven't noticed any forsythia in bloom yet - darn - I wish this coming predicted snow could be our "it always snows on the forsythia" snow, and we could move on to Spring!

I have some video I took of that storm Cagle. Very nasty! The wind is howling like crazy and the snow is blowing. People were leaving their cars along side the road over here on US 23 (you know me though, I put everything on 23).
you're right though..here today, gone tomorrow..that snow we had in April 86 or 87, it was on the ground for a couple days. That was a bad one too but nothing like the blizzard you were talking about
