South Point looks to be a good line this year, as they will be striving for another trip to State Finals. I have not seen nor heard anything about the Rock Hill line/band this season, other than they are doing a Cirque du Soleil show. Chesapeake and Coal Grove produce some descent lines too, not sure about Symmes Valley or Ironton.
Fairland has a good drumline this year, but unfortunately, they do not compete.
as for Green and Minford, I don't know since they're not in Lawrence County, but rather Scioto.

Although our band isn't as good as it has been, our drumline is doing awesome! This is honestly the best line we've had in many, many years....acually, over the past couple of weeks, we've improved drastically. At first, it was tough, and don't get me wrong, it still is, but we then started to realize that it isn't the director that makes the band, it's the students....it is very hard not having Mr. Jones there, because he was so dedicated to the band, and he's such a great person, but we need to show him that he's taught us well. Mrs. Pemberton and Mr. Rath are doing a great job! Our band from last week to this week is unbelievable. But anywho, our drumline is doing absolutely FANTASTIC! Mr. Ben Jenkins is our percussion instructor, and he has done an amazing job.....

Our drumline (south point) is doing better and better each week. At our latest comp. we were 2nd overall (by 1/10 of a point lol). I speak on behalf of the rest of the line, and front ensemble when i say, Thank you Jamie Martin and Mr. Hunt for the best direction south point has ever seen. Our bass line is doing very well also. With top bass and 3rd being only in MS, its a very good job. Our snares just keep getting cleaner and "equaling" themselves. The tenor player (myself) is doing a pretty good job for his first year, he is only hitting a few rims the whole show. It looks like a good season for us.

South Point has produced a drumline that leaves them on your mind. Even though I attend Coal Grove and play Trumpet. I have to give props to SP. Our drumline can compete with anyone, but South Point has the awards to prove it.

I attend South Point High School. Even though I play mellophone (marching French horn) I love drumlines. Our's this year is doing great and as "SoPotenor" said it is especially great considering two of our basses our only in the 8th grade. I am very impressed with our drumline and all of our band. Our basses are progressively getting better and better, our snares are getting cleaner and cleaner with their playing every practice, and our tenor player is great especially for his first year playing tenors. Thank you guys!!!

South Point has an AMAZING line this year. They have some tempo problems but its alright cause they play said hard ass stuff. With my professional opinion i would say the best in Lawrence county. The whole Drumline i well put together and play extremely musically and dynamically. They are a mighty force to be reconned with. And they have in fact qaulified for state 4 times this year and got Grand Champion twice. But of course the drumline would be nothing without the band. And theres one person that made it that way and that is Brent Hunt. He is a musical genius. Keep up the good work South Point High School Marching Band of Gold.

Mr. wemufans,
No I dont have medication. Its called an opinion. Im entitled to one. I was being "mr. negative" in river valley because they dont try. They have the ability to be fantastic but dont. South Point on the other hand is fantastic. They know how to go to a competetion and win. And ive seen them practice before, they have determination the whole practice not even relaxing at time. Thats how you get a good band hard work and determination. Have a nice day sir.

actually, RV does try and if numbers are up, that is a good thing. They had 13 kids last year. It takes time to build a program. I get that you are proud of your band and you should be, But, there is no need to cut down someone else's program.
Re: So about any Drumlines in Lawrence county
Mr.buckfan84,
The shows ive seen this year with them. It seemed like they deffinatly did try. The peformance lacked concentration they stayed still and looked around. And yes it is good that numbers went up but what use is it if people dont put it to good use. And fyi im not in South Points band nor do I help with them. I am merely an spectator that has seen them go from zero to hero if you will. All I am saying is if you have more kids great but you have to make them work. A good band is nothing but discipline, and hard work.

Re: So about any Drumlines in Lawrence county
Mr. anonymous,
I get that band takes discipline and a lot of hard work. I am associated with NY's band and I know firsthand how hard those kids work. I also know how hard it is to inspire kids to work in times when kids are involved in way too many activities. I can't speak for RV but I can't imagine that their director, if he is the same as 2 yrs ago, doesn't have those kids working. I am sure he is getting everything he can out of the group he has.
All I am saying is this. In this day when school funding is an issue, the first programs to go are the arts. I know for 2 yrs. Trimble had a volunteer for a director, who by the way, did a fantastic job. You hear about schools closing down the music dept. every year. I applaud any school that sticks with their program. I had a feeling that NY would do away with their program a few years ago but Mr. Robb was able to bring a band of 13 kids up to almost 60 today. This coming from when I was in school with a band of almost 125 kids.
But, it doesn't take small numbers to do this. Johnstown Monroe, a festival band, with around 150 kids in the program decided to cut the program, or so I am told, so now we have 150 kids dedicated to a program with no outlet for their music. That is sad.
We expect on the football threads to see your team is terrible, or you guys couldn't fight your way out of a wet paper bag. (Just for the record, I don't agree with it on there either.) But, we don't expect to see it on the Band threads. That is why I am shocked to see comments like this. Remember, when we say a group is bad, Ty on the sax or Jennifer that plays trumpet might see these comments and wonder ."why am I trying?" You might say, grow up or grow a pair but remember, there are far more schools that don't have a music program than that don't have a football team.
I am glad to see your enthusiasm for band. I really am. I just don't like to see kids cut down when they ARE trying their best. It is difficult to get more kids in your group and suddenly throw a contest show on them that requires precision drills and marching. Throw in a flag corps that needs to not only twirl but dance also and they have no formal training. It is difficult at best.
I have seen the NY Band go from struggling to turning a corner over the past few years and am glad to be involved and hopefully contributed to their success. They qualified last year, but not this year. But, it isn't like they weren't trying. I watched one girl cry when our band almost made it this year. But, through her tears I saw kids that were dedicated to what they were doing and that should give any program hope. That dedication is what will build a program and make it that much better.
