we have majorettes and nobody else in the OVC has them. Our trumpet section is the best and also our drumline. I say we get a competition set up and South Points and Fairlands drumlines can duke it out just like the movie.

Yeah no one else has majoretes in the OVC because its a stupid idea. Thats why everyone got rid of them. I mean have you even competed... in the last 2 or 3 years. And when it comes to drumlines when you actually play something right you come talk to us. And f.y.i. drumline the movie is stupid nick cannon couldnt play a drum if his life depended on it.

fairlands line is good
way better than South Point
I think Fairlands line should "duke it out" with Wahama from WV
They are far superior to anyone around here

Ahaha, well Sopotenors, I couldn't agree more.
Wahama would definitely own over them, atleast half of their drumline.

But seriously fairland person, the south point drumline usually does not partake or condone in such activities such as "battling", except for one instance a couple of years ago (all in good fun, though  ) nor we would EVER mimic any type of activity, event, or happening from diasterous movie, "Drumline". So, sorry, I apologize.

We compete, in competitions. We do not battle. Go to one, and I guess it's kind of like battling.
Thanks for the challenge though.

**TIME OUT**

1.) Spdrummer08, we have majorettes because we are a "traditional show style" band and not a "corps style" band. Second, Fairland doesn't compete because they learn 3-4 halftime shows a year and focus more on concert band than marching band. Finally, when Fairland does compete in things like the Jackson Applefestival Parade and the Marshall Homecoming Parade, they tend to do pretty well. My last year in the marching band (2005-06) we took 1st Place Band, 1st Place Flags, and 2nd Place Majorettes/Twirlers at Jackson Applefestival. Last year, the band took 1st Place in Marching at the Marshall Homecoming Parade.

and FYI -- Fairland received 'Superior' (I) ratings at the OMEA District XVII Large Group Contest every year from 2002-2005, and 'Excellent' (II) ratings at the OMEA State Large Group Contest in 2002, 2003, and 2005. Not to mention, during my years at Fairland (1999-2006), we had the most people in the All-County Band (both MS and HS), and had the most kids from any band in Lawrence County at the OMEA All-District Band. Just because a band doesn't compete in OMEA Marching Band doesn't mean that they aren't good. I suggest you educate yourself and pull away from that attitude. It's poisonous.

2.) highlightreel25, that stuff that happens in ''Drumline'' only happens in ''Drumline'', and at schools with bands like the one in ''Drumline'', which typically only exist in the south.

3.) Do you guys realize how ridiculous you sound arguing over marching band? Save the chest beating for the football team, and learn to live in harmony amongst each other. Be peaceful. Make music, not war.

Duh Earp anyone can be band of the day. All you have to do is to plan to come to the park and play a song or two. Sorry to burst your bubble but the only requirements for that that is to have a band, say you are coming in advance and actually show up and play. They will take any band's money good or bad! Not really an honor by any means.

You are right,It is something that I dont really know much about but it seems to me that Disney would'nt half do anything! You would have to ask DragonFan about that,As far as a football good time band there is no better in the area in my humble opinion!I know I hear alot of good things about our band"I hate to burst youre bubble"!And youre right I am a football guy that probably does'nt know as much as somebody that was in a band but then again I am sure I could hand you a football playbook and it would look like greek to you!One of my best friends used to teach drumline so I know a little from being around him!But I am not one of the "Chest Thumping"football guys like someone else put on here,I happen to think that band and football go together!I think it is very important,I know I love it when I hear our band play after a score! :mrgreen:I do know however the difference between corp style and traditional show style!Personally I like traditional better because corp style tends to be boring! That is why when Marshall's band plays at halftime everyone goes out to the parking lot and gets a beer,Hmm does that happen at Ohio State???NOPE because IMO because it is traditional style"Even leaning more towards military style" it is more entertaining for the crowd!Nothing againist you DragonFan because I know you were in the Marching Thunder! ;-)Although I think the Marshall band is trying to evolve into more of a football fun time band,When Baruk Whitehead "I hope I am spelling that right"was director it was yawningly boring! So I give the new director credit,He is making it a bit more entertaining for the crowd! ;-)

you couldn't be any more incorrect...

first of all, to even get to participate in the actual Music Magic Festival, you have to submit an audition tape of your band marching and playing.

and second, uh...yeah, being named "Band of the Day" at the MMF is kind of a big deal. it means that your audition tape was one of the best overall. this is on a national scale, and we've beaten some pretty good bands out for this award when I was in band. sure, there are bands that show up to Disney and march in the parade, but there is an actual competition involved for "Band of the Day".

a.) corps style doesn't have to be boring, and if you pay attention, the corps style bands are doing marching maneuvers that are much harder than some of the traditional style stuff.

b.) while OSU's music is usually pretty good, their drill usually bores me to tears.

c.) still in the MT, still lovin it, and still think its funny that people still associate our band with Baruch Whitehead, even though he has been gone for almost 9 years. the MT has really evolved from the days of Whitehead's "let's play classical music on the field" to this year our first halftime show opened with Styx (Mr. Roboto, Foolin' Yourself, and Come Sail Away) and closed with Bohemian Rhapsody. in my 3 years in the MT we've done everything from Big Band Jazz to Disco to Latin Jazz to Rock 'n Roll (80s and Beatles). so even though most of the time people are getting a hotdog during halftime we're slowly getting more and more people to stay in their seats and watch our show. :)
