I'm just glad I quit my 2.5 pack a day habit when cigarettes were still just a little over $2.00 a pack. I could not imagine paying $6 a pack for a pack of Marlboro lights now.

I'd just buy them from overseas if I smoke a whole lot. . .
But if I wanna smoke a little, I'll spring at a local gas station to support one of the industries that made this country great. 8)

I don't smoke seen the effects of it..but I do love to eat..and its a health risk also to be overweight diabetes heart problems etc. are they going to tax the bad foods also?? OR how about alcohol ? it not only can kill you but others when someone chooses to drink and drive others lives are effected why not tax it also??
this is just my opinion on it.. it doesn't seem fair to tax one bad habit and not another...

NYC and other urban areas have placed a ban on trans fats in food. I think it is only a matter of time before this becomes a national trend. If you look at the history of smoking bans, they started in larger cities as city-wide bans. And then that branched out to include the northeast states and the west coast, and then on to the midwest. Virginia passed a statewide smoking ban this year to take effect in December and is the first southern state to ban smoking in public places. North Carolina is now in discussions to ban smoking in public. If you look at the history of movements in this country - any type of movement - it is typically this exact same pattern with the southern states the last to follow. Once smoking bans are pretty much in all 50 states, you will start to see more trans fats bans take place. Sure enough, the major cities are already starting to ban trans fats. Next, you will see the northeast states pass statewide bans, followed by the west coast, the midwest, and the south in that order. Just wait and see!
