Gays have prbably served in every war this nation has ever fought, no doubt, and many, probably with honor.
However, if gays are openly allowed in the military, then what other avenues are apt to be opened?
Will they be housed and trained with hetrosexuals or be segregated.
How would you feel about having to take a communal shower with some guy checkin out your goodies?
As Boonie pointed out, does that mean that the hetrosexuals now have the right to communal living in intimate ways?
People can use the argument that you cant legislate morality, but that either means that straight men and women can choose to cohabitate on post also........... or people can accept the fact that the military is not a democracy, therefore it has the right to legislate morality in its soldiers all it wants.

The rub is though the military will see huge drops in recruiting and retention will also suffer horribly.

Being gay is wrong, thinking about it gives we the willies, but I'm not one to throw stones at them.

FIDO, I have never served in the military, so my opinions are from an outsiders perspective....
I think "Don't Ask Don't Tell" needs to be eliminated immediately. Sexual orientation has nothing to do with capability of serving in the military. I think Diversity Training Sessions should be offered to current military personnel, as well as mandatory for all new recruits. Diversity sessions are offered at most colleges and many large companies in the world of work concerning LGBT issues, so why not the military?
No special treatment to LGBT military personnel is necessary. Equal treatment is necessary.

I agree completely that sexual orientation has nothing to do with a persons ability to serve their nation....HOWEVER.....diversity training????? Is that really needed? Kinda like sensitvity training. Our military is in place, quite bluntly to kill people and to blow things up. These young men and women are expected to act professionally, so, it goes without saying, that if gays were allowed to serve openly, then actions against either side should be dealt with.NYBuckeye96 wrote:FIDO, I have never served in the military, so my opinions are from an outsiders perspective....

FIDO, I know diversity training is in place, but I still have a problem with that.FIDO wrote:Spacecowboy........Diversity training is alive and well. It has been for several years now in the Air Force. It is an annual training requirement. I'm not sure about the other services.
Tail Hook help drive the change for us btw...
There wasnt any diversity training when I was active and I never personally had any problems with anything of that nature. Im sure there are, on occasion, some problems, but my feeling on the matter is if someone cant at least try to get along with someone else that they stand a good chance of being in a combat zone with, then they are too immature for the military to waste its time and patience on.

Never had any connection to the military but I am appreciative they are there and protecting us. I don't have a problem with Don't Ask, Don't Tell but I always thought it was a cop out. If you are fit, able and willing to serve, God Bless You. But the problem I have is when someone is outed, they are forced to resign. Stop that practice and we'll be OK.

The way I see it is that if you show up do your job and work hard day in and day out for your country then I don't care what your sexual preference is. 10 years ago a lot of soldiers could care less who you slept with man or woman. The Values of our culture have changed so much that being Gay isn't a big deal. No mateer if you are straight or gay it takes a special person to serve his or her country.
