I really like mysteries which may include some gory "murderous" scenes/descriptions - but I like the "mystery" not the "gore". It doesn't sound appealing to me, but I'll see if my library has it.TigerTownTurkey wrote:Evil Twins...........John Glatt

If your choice of subject is "religion", try Jan Karon's "Mitford" series.Tiger Lady wrote:Gideon's Gift...........Karen Kingsbury
I read and liked them - but no longer agree, support, or subscribe to her's or any religion.
It feels to me that RELIGION - all varieties- are mostly about HATE, INSULT, AND EXCLUSION.
Got that message - worked so well for the Nazi's , the KKK, and all others who want to make their particular religion into enforceable LAW and punish all who don't conform or agree -
and "Christians" are just as [even more so] guilty as any/all others - they "claim" to be loving. tolerant, and inclusive - what a JOKE! I'm out of there, never attend, contribute, or pray.

A little "softer" - maybe more appreciated by the ladies among us - but not "bodice-ripper" romances - great generational family stories that have you CARING about the characters!
Rosamunde Pilcher - The Shell Seekers is my favorite - but the others are good, too.

Maeve Binchy - Tara Road is my favorite - if you have kids, you'll think she's been listening in on their squabbling. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_ ... 1344481739

I read BOTH some years ago right after my church [which I had attended/supported for 18 yrs] kicked my "immoral" self and my "good-time-charlie" kids out of their "sacred" presence.abuck76 wrote:Then I would recommend two more books for you.......... :12224

Not technically - they never took a vote on it - but I got their message and never went back.abuck76 wrote:They kicked you out?....wow............Like I have said, I love God, but hate religion..........Did you like the books?....Did they help you ?..........I am sorry that you had such a bad experience, but I understand your feelings perfectly........Keep strong brother......... :12224
And my kids got the same message - as adults with families decades later, neither of them have ever associated themselves with a religion/church/congregation. Those books told me that my feelings were valid, and I didn't have to "accept as my due" the hateful/hurtful insults and criticisms stated publicly from the pulpit against me and my kids. I'm GONE from that "HOLY" hate/exclusion message that calls itself religion/worship but demands and preaches HATE.
Back to books - I just got The Kite Runner, but haven't started reading it yet.
My library list just keeps getting longer - I'm a fast reader, but it's going to take me a while.
Re: Books You would Recommend
Sounds like you came through it o.k...........Hope the best for you and yours...........I have not read Kite Runner, but heard it is good.......... :12224
