patty melts

2 tablespoons butter, divided
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1/2 pound ground beef
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste
4 slices rye bread
4 slices American cheese
1/4 cup Thousand Island salad dressing

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt butter; saute onion 6 to 8 minutes, or until it starts to brown. Remove to a bowl and cover.
Shape beef into 2 oval patties; sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. In the same skillet over medium heat, cook patties 3 to 5 minutes per side, or until no longer pink in center. Remove from skillet and keep warm.
Spread remaining butter over one side of each slice of bread. Place in skillet buttered side down, and toast until lightly browned.
Place 2 slices of cheese on 2 slices of toast, top each with a beef patty, half the onion slices, and salad dressing. Top with remaining toast and serve immediately.

I cook and I love fresh food/produce. I go up the Farmers' Market every week.
Most of my recipes start with chopped onion, peppers, celery.
Can we get this whole CHAT TOPIC back from hateful, intolerant people who think their religious beliefs are written in the Constitution and enforceable BY LAW on ALL the rest of us who don't measure up to THEIR RELIGIOUS STANDARD?
I know this is the wrong topic, but 'tucky has monopolized and excluded all other topics on CHAT by repeatedly posting his hateful racist political rants to the exclusion and diminishment of all others. Do you suppose 'tucky ever cooks?

I'm down about 20 lbs - 30 more to go. I have done so by eliminating many of my favorite recipes - all those containing carbs such as rice, pasta, potatoes, bread.
Absolutely no "white stuff" [except low-fat dairy products] and no sandwiches!

Pretty good. Hot sauce wasn't what i thought it would be. I was leary too in the heat of the summer. to many flies flying around. Nice and cool out now. Go try it bolt. You might like it. But i would rather have taco bell.

I don't eat "bread", so I guess that leaves me with the "glass of water".
Now that's a "Ghandi" weight reduction diet!! [do you know who he was?]
Do none of you have favorite things to fix/cook/eat at this Holiday time?

Got a buddy that eats a crouton and a glass of water everyday for breakfest. Then he drinks his lunch and dinner and eats very little. Don't know how he does it.

I used to make peanut butter fudge and eat all of it at holiday time, but now have to eat croutons and water because my sugar got too high and I was drinking big lakes and urinating all the time.Sometimes I drink cranberry to help with my bladder infections :122247

Here's a way to do it all-in-one - crockpot/slow cooker

THANKSGIVING DINNER IN A POT - serves 4 - 6

3-4 sweet potatoes scrubbed/peeled [or NOT] and cut into bite-sized chunks
1 16-oz pkg frozen green beans
1-2 Tbsp butter or margarine
1 can [10 oz] cream of chicken or celery soup - undiluted
4-6 [1 1/2 - 2 lbs] skinless, boneless chicken breasts cut into strips/chunks
1 12-oz can/jar chicken gravy
1 box [maybe 2] stove-top type stuffing mix, prepared per pkg directions

Mix together the potato chunks, green beans, and soup - season to taste -
Place in lightly-greased crock pot with 2 Tbsp water. Dot with butter/marg
Place all the chicken pieces on top of that combo and pour gravy over them.
Add prepared stuffing on top of all.
Cover and cook on low in crock-pot for 8 -10 hours

You can have this together in a short amt of time and sleep while it cooks.
Dip deep, and you have your whole meal on your plate at once. GOOD DEAL

Don't we all have to feed ourselves/families?
Why is "cooking" not even a desired, let alone praised, skill anymore?

I have read/tried many of your recipes, especially the low carb variety. Spending time in the kitchen helps take the focus off other pressing matters. I prefer grilling but I'm not opposed to whipping up some of your recipes either. I usually cook enough on the weekend to last me the week. Leftovers sure beats the heck out of paying 8-10 dollars a meal at lunch/dinner during the week. Keep on posting away. I may not contribute but I do take away. I'm a ham man during the holiday's too.
