Re: World War II
I believe GOD intervened, or the Axis coulda won the war, or at least made it last a lot longer. Here are some things Hitler coulda done differently, any one of which woulda made the war last much longer:
1.) Captured Dunkirk and forced the BEF to surrender. This woulda greatly depressed British morale & made England much-more-open to a negotiated peace.
2.) Had plans in place to invade England, and carried them out ASAP.
3.)Continued the bombing of England's sector airfields and radar stations, while avoiding bombing residential areas. As it was, the Luftwaffe ALMOST disabled England's air defense grid, which woulda made a cross-Channel invasion a cakewalk.
4.) Supplied Rommel with enough men and material to have conquered Egypt and seized the Suez Canal, which woulda greatly strained maritime traffic to England.
5.) Not made such a tight alliance with the incompetent idiot Mussolini. (Hitler had a strange fascination with Benito, whom he felt he owed something for standing aside while Hitler annexed Austria.)
6.) Attacked Yugoslavia in a temper tantrum. This attack set back his attack upon Russia for some 4-6 weex, thus allowing the RUSSIAN WINTER to become a factor, a factor which saved Moscow.
7.) Not attacked Russia, of course. Stalin did NOT want to fight Hitler, but the German attack was every bit as sneaky as the japanese attack upon Pearl Harbor. Chances are, Stalin woulda continued to cooperate with Hitler and kept him supplied with food and fuel.
8. Treated the Russians with respect. Hitler coulda had quite a few Russian helpers in overthrowing Stalin, had his forces declared themselves "liberators". Many of the Russians hated Stalin, but they soon saw Hitler as far-worse, so they began guerrilla/partisan warfare against the Germans.
9.) Focused his Russian invasion on Moscow first. Besides the huge moral victory capturing Moscow woulda brought, it was the most-important rail and highway center in the western Soviet Union. Its conquest woulda greatly facilitated the capture of Leningrad and Stalingrad. While even Hitler knew he couldn't conquer the whole Soviet Union while he had other enemies active, he most-likely coulda caused Stalin to sue for peace, leaving the Ukraine, etc. with their vast oil and food reserves in Nazi hands. Then it woulda been an east matter for Hitler to have taken Romania and its oil, thus ensuring his fuel supply.
10.) Given the development/manufacture of the ME 262 jet fighter top priority. This plane was so advanced that its basic design was used for some of the USA's most-successhul jet fighters in the Korean War. Even with its main drawback of small fuel supply, it still won over 500 air-to-air victories over Allied aircraft. And it wasn't introduced into combat until late 1944, flown by largely-inexperienced pilots. Still, it was superior in almost every way to any Allied aircraft, including the British Gloster Meteor, the world's first operational jet fighter. Had priority been given to thos project, the air war in Europe woulda turned out far-differently.
This is bit a SHORT LIST of things Hitler coulda done differently. My late father, a WW2 vet, insisted Hitler had a demon that guided him in his rise from Vienna street bum to Fuehrer, and that this demon left him when France surrendered. And Hitler coulda kept the USA outta the war , at least against Germany, for a good while, by not making an agreement with Japan to declare war on the USA if Japan did so. And Japan mighta thought twice about attacking the USA, as most of their rulers knew Japan couldn't defeat the USA by itself.
Overall, the Axis simply didn't have the resources to win WW2, but, if Hitler coulda ensured his food and fuel supply and knocked England outta the war, it mighta lasted much-longer, or all Europe still been "Greater Germany" today. We should THANK GOD that He intervened when He did.
