Governor Strickland has turned down a raise ! He as a congressman turned down healthcare also.. I think its great we finally have someone in office that doesn't pad their pockets!

He has walked in some of our shoes and understands what it is to be poor!

I have always liked this guy, I really think he is going to do great things for this state.
Taft has us as one of the worst states to be in and I think Strickland will make us one of the BEST states in this country.
He has a lot of things to fix for us but given time he will get things right.

I met Governor Strickland when I was a Senior in High School. He came and spoke to our Government class. He is a very nice guy and puts the state of Ohio before himself or anything else. He knows how hard it is to be a regular person in society in Southeast Ohio especially, sice he is from here.

He also went to the utilities commission to stop the electric and gas companies from turning off the utilities when people can't pay the bills for the winter months. You still have to pay them, but if you can't pay them on time or in full, they can't shut your utilities off.

I also think that he is a great man of Character and it is wonderful to see one of the few people in office really get things done like he has and will continue to do!!!

What is the Governor's salary?
How much did he turn down?
Believe me, I want to believe in a political figure, however, to me, they are all politicians in the end. You don't get to a position like Governor without being involved in your share of shady dealings.

well for the doubting thomas its $144,000 a year and about a 5% increase...(I think) he got the job because people had faith in his leadership sure its a nice chunk of change but... there are others like the president whose income tax last year was big time!!!

ONB I think it was just a 2% increase, but the fact is he still turned it down.

I believe the actual figure was 2.8 percent, but regardless of the amount, it's the fact that he turned it down that is so impressive. I bet you can't show me a handful of politicians from any state that turn down their annual raise.

2.8% of $144,000 is $4,032 if I remember my Math. I admire him turning down the raise as governor and also the insurance as Congressman. I'd really admire our Senator's and Congressmen if they would all turn down their yearly raise. 3 and 4% is a big piece of pie when compared to what the average American makes.

Not to be the devil's advocate, but is it worth of all the praise?

He gave up a whopping $4,056.00, on a $144,830.00 salary. Don't get me wrong, I voted for the guy, but look at the positive publicity he gained for a mere four grand, before the tax bill differance...

I'm hoping this move and the nativity scene move was just not for show ---- I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now , but this gained him ton's and ton's of good press to feed to us conservatives , looks like the type of move a guy with national aspirations would make. I hope I'm not to cynical to see past an honest good move. MD

The amount of the raise has nothing to do with. If I know Ted I'm sure he would have turned it down no matter what the size. It's the fact that he cares more about the state of the state than he does about his raise. I'm sure not to many people would turn down, as you put it, a "mere four grand", but he did and I commend him for it. At least he's not stealing from the people like the last Governor did with the coin scam.
