Why Do Oil Companies Hate Portsmouth?

Went to Cincinnati to the Bass Pro Shops today (very wonderful place to be by the way) and we decided to drive US 52 home as it was pretty and it's scenic. Somewhere on the way I noted that gasoline was $2.97 and one station was $2.95! Then, when I get to Portsmouth, it's a whopping $3.25 cents! that's a big difference, especially for a 2 car family. I then get back into Flatwoods and it's it was $3.05.

How come it's so expensive from South Point..up 52 to 23 to Chillicothe?

we always drive across the greenup dam bridge and get our gas,,it always 20 to 25 cents cheaper..even if we arent saving anything for the extra drive,,at least we arent buying it from the greedy folks here

it's a nice drive but...that truck I got last summer wants to run right over top of people..drives me nuts getting behind someone slow poking it up the river...

Seen one HUGE coyote this morning on the Dbl A going to Cincinnati..it was huge! we thought it was a deer till we got up on it

The price of gas is the same way here around Zanesville. From Cambridge to Columbus along I-70, Zanesville is always 15-25 cents higher per gallon.

The difference in South Zanesville and north end of Zanesville is like that also. Its always about 10-15 higher on the north end.

I honestly believe that some of these gas station owners are guilty of price fixing and gouging.

I asked a guy I know at a gas station in New Boston how they determined their gas prices and he said the boss told him to see what it was along 52 in Sciotoville on his way to work each morning and set theirs at the same price.

You may want to check on your local taxes. That makes gas a little higher in some areas.

3.05 here Gas has always been higher here I blame it on the bumper to bumper traffic to OU they have to sit in traffic so long they need gas and then they can get gouged

It's not the Oil Companies and it's not the owners of the stations, it's the supplier of the gas to our local stations that is price gouging. From what I've been told John Clark Oil has a monopoly on supplying all the gas to all the stations in our area and his prices are so high that the owners have no choice but to charge what they do if they want to make a profit. I was also told that he has been reported, but obviously nothing has been done about it.

The people of Portsmouth need to stand up and do something about JCO and try to run him out of town. The goverment won't allow price gouging during a hurricane or any kind of disaster, but because our country is run by an oil baron, they turn a blind eye to things like this. While the gas is ridiculously high in Portsmouth, it is also way to high anywhere else in this country, evident by the record profits of the oil companies. Anyone that voted for Bush is now getting just what they deserve, prices that are skyrocketing out of control and a war that is not only bleeding us dry but killing thousands of Americans that should be home with their families instead of fighting something we can never win.

Speedway stations gouge all the time. Their prices are constantly changing. They are really good at raising their prices on payday.

yeah..but..being an Ironton fan I really appreciate it that Portsmouth is hated by OPEC as well

seriously though, I know it's a corridor that runs down US 23 from Waverly, to Portsmouth, then, apparently up US 52 to Huntington

Someone told me to invest in oil stock a few years ago and I adjusted my 401K stocks. Sometimes it pays to listen. ;-)
