Flooding A Concern In Southwest Ohio

DAYTON, Ohio — Strong thunderstorms continued to batter southern and central Ohio Wednesday, with power outages, lightning fires and flooding reported across the region.
Tornado watches also remained in effect until 11:00 a.m. from a line of thunderstorms that began Tuesday night. No injuries were reported.
Andy Hatzos, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Wilmington, said countless funnel clouds had been reported by early Wednesday, but no tornadoes had been confirmed.
About 24,000 Duke Energy customers in the Cincinnati area were without power after the storm began, but service had been restored to all but 457 by Wednesday, the company said.
In Ross County in southern Ohio, two homes were badly damaged by falling trees, Sheriff Ron Nichols said.
The city of Lebanon had to go to a backup communications system for police and fire dispatchers because one of the antennas for the primary system apparently was hit by lightning, officials said.
Flooding was reported in several communities around Dayton. Parts of Butler and Warren counties near Cincinnati received 2-3 inches of rain, the National Weather Service said.
In Hamilton, a woman was injured Tuesday night when a nearby tree was struck by lightning, according to a supervisor at The Fort Hamilton Hospital. She was treated and expected to be released.
Fire departments in nearby Somerville and Seven Mile responded to reports of electrical lines on fire.
Those attending Tuesday's Hamilton High School commencement in Oxford stayed inside for about 45 minutes after the event as police worked to move people to a basement during high winds and hail that accompanied a tornado warning.
