SAN FRANCISCO – Seeking to influence other states and Washington, California air regulators passed sweeping auto emission standards Friday that include a mandate to have 1.4 million electric and hybrid vehicles on state roads by 2025.
The California Air Resources Board unanimously approved the new rules that require that one in seven of the new cars sold in the state in 2025 be an electric or other zero-emission vehicle.
The plan also mandates a 75 percent reduction in smog-forming pollutants by 2025, and a 50 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from today's standards.

Califonia Lead's The Way In Stupidity - Electric Cars
Now, where do these hippies they're think goin' to get the electric to run them? they don't want coal fired plants, don't want nuclear generators and many complain and stop wind farms because of aesthetics lol
Re: Califonia Lead's The Way In Stupidity - Electric Cars
Tuck, I know you are getting old, but you do know there are many ways to make electricity, right?......

yeah, ok, how besides these and hydro plants..how..
Re: Califonia Lead's The Way In Stupidity - Electric Cars
There is solar.......There are power plants run from Bio-Mass... And most electric cars produce some of there own regeneration.......Why do you insist on being a naysayer about everything?....Why not try and think positively for a change?...You just constantly sound like a miserable , lonely old man ...... Ask yourself, is this what God wants me to do?...Complain?.......If it is that is fine, but I sure am glad I do not go to your church........ :12224

Re: Califonia Lead's The Way In Stupidity - Electric Cars
The only reason I dont see this working is people want sweet lookng fast cars not electric cars. What you would rather have a 2010 Dodge Charger or a Prius? Im going Charger. An electric car is like a moped yea cool when you are 16, but when you hit 18 you need a real motorcycle.
Re: Califonia Lead's The Way In Stupidity - Electric Cars
So lets just keep going down the unsustainable path we are on...Yep, that is the ticket .........That will help, lets see...that will help, oh yea, the bid Oil Companies........Cons do not like change as a group...They are afraid they will lose power...They are not for tis country , only themselves....They do not want to change...Force them to change......We need to change for the betterment of the country, not the Corporatocracy............. :12224

Re: Califonia Lead's The Way In Stupidity - Electric Cars
Obama has spent billions on giving out subsidies to electric car companies to develop cheap electric cars for general population. So far the compnaies have either went bankrupt or they havent gotten to a cheap price in which all Americans can afford them. So basically the govt is pouring water into strainer. If they want to make a difference give the money to car companies to help them figure out safer and more environmentally safe cars. Your whole concept is spend spend spend yet you dont realize this Corporatocracy you keep hating on you just want to trade it for a Big Brother Govt who is invovled in everything you do.

So does that seem like money well spent? Of course it doesnt.U.S.-backed electric car maker Fisker misses early goals, delays production
October 22, 2011 | Heather Kelly1 CommentinShare.Government-backed electric car company Fisker Automotive is delaying plans for production after missing its early manufacturing goals. According to a report by the Washington Post, the delays are being blamed on regulatory issues, and the company is brushing off any comparisons to Solyndra, another clean-energy company that received half a million in government loans, which filed for bankruptcy in September.
Fisker has already received $529 million in loans from the U.S. Department of Energy to make its plug-in extended-range vehicles. The majority of the loans are going toward the development of the Nina, a mid-priced family car, to be built in a former GM plant in Delaware. The manufacturing delay means that the creation of thousands of promised new jobs will also be postponed. Fisker now plans to start production in 2013.
“Yes there have been delays, but we have created a totally new car, based on a new technology and started a company and raised finance for it in less than 4 years since the company was formed — and all in an economic downturn,†Roger Ormisher, Fisker’s director of global communication told VentureBeat.
A $169 million chunk of the government’s loan has gone to development of Fisker’s Karma, a luxury sedan made in Finland that costs $96,000 (pictured above). However, even though the factory is in Finland, Fisker and the Department of Energy say the loan money is not being spent abroad, but rather in the U.S. on design, engineering and integration.
The Karma has just been cleared for sale in the U.S., two years late and without meeting its promised efficiency standards. Last week the EPA gave it a rating of 52 miles per gallon in electric mode, and a low 20 miles per gallon in gas mode. Only 40 of the cars have been shipped to the U.S. from Finland, but the company still plans on ramping up production to 15,000 cars a year.
The Obama administration’s $38.6 billion loan guarantee program for green-energy companies is part of a “green jobs†initiative that was supposed to create or keep 65,000 jobs. So far it has given out half its loans and created 3,545 full-time jobs, according to the Washington Post. The failure of solar-panel manufacturer Solyndra in September thrust the program into the spotlight, with many questioning the decision to tie investing in unproven and emerging green technology companies to job creation. It’s likely that all of the program’s loan recipients will be closely scrutinized.
The Department of Energy has adjusted the terms of its loan agreement with Fisker to accommodate the delays. Fisker Automotive’s founder, Henrik Fisker, told the Washington Post of comparisons to Solyndra, “This is completely different. You can’t compare at all.â€
Fisker Automotive has raised over $600 million in private equity financing, the majority of which has been used to create jobs, including 650 in Calif. and 100 in Delaware, according to Fisker.

Another way to look at this ---- examine the history of American culture. Where do cultural trends begin? Usually, when we have a shakeup in any aspect of American life, it all starts in either New York or California and then it gradually spreads to the rest of the nation.

Yep, going up the road with them exploding like Chevy Volts. Perhaps, 'The Toe' would care to elaborate on how we'd generate all that 'lectric?

Lets face it when you watch tv shows like American Pickers, Pawn Stars, Barret Jackson auctions, and other shows you never see classic 'environmentally' friendly cars. You see muscle cars. Cars that are fast and sweet looking and guzzle gas. An electric car unless it can actually fly will never replace a gas car.

You are thinking of the present times. Doesn't mean it will be that way in the future. If you watch old movies, almost everyone used to smoke in them. You hardly ever see anyone smoke on TV now. Times change. Heck, if the internet has taught us anything at all, it is that nothing ever remains the same.

Apples and oranges. Old cars arent dangers to our health like smoking is. You cant compare the two.
Re: Califonia Lead's The Way In Stupidity - Electric Cars
When gasoline gets to $5 we will see how many muscle cars there are................NYBUCk makes a valid point, whether you agree or not.........Culture changes....Reality....Cars are a part of our culture.....Reality.....Cars will change, when the incentive is there to change.......And that incentive is staring at us, and the quicker we adjust this new reality, the better we will all be........... :12224

Cars might change that true, but its our gas cars that will continue to sell and inprove while electric cars will be on the fringe.

Just like travel by train and trolley has remained mainstream throughout time. Times change. Things never stay the same.
It is assumed our oil reserves will run out in approximately 100 years. That also assumes we use oil at current rates worldwide. Keep in mind that countries like China are significantly increasing their use of oil.
Without oil, there is no gasoline.
Something will have to change in time --- even if electric cars or solar cars do not become mainstream.
Like I said, nothing stays the same.

I rode a train to DC just this summer. People still travel trains everyday.
