Football Kickoff Quesiton

I was told there is a new rule on kickoffs, where you can not overload and line evryone up on one side, in order to try an get an onside kick?

is this in high school?

and what exacly is the rule?

IO was listning to the Notre Dame Game last night and they said it was a high school rule also.

I believe you have to have atleast 4 players on one side of the ball while trying for an on-side kick

As a football official at the high school level, there is no regulations on onside kicks. They team can put as many players as it wants on either side of the kicker. (as long as they only have 11 on the field )

That requirement no longer exists for the receiving team. It was eliminated 4 or 5 years ago.

As time goes on, NFL rule changes become less and less logical. Every year, it becomes harder and harder for a team to come back from a deficit and win a game or at least make it exciting, and that's what drives ratings and revenue; excitement.

By not allowing as many people on one side of the ball as a kicking team wants, it becomes more difficult for that kicking team to recover the ball. This rule may make a difference in one game every five years, but it makes a difference. I've read that with the current rules, legendary comebacks like the Heidi Game back in the day could not have happened. It started with clock rules, and has expanded to facet of the game.

I hope this rule does not expand to any other level, and where it has gained footing, that it quickly looses it.
