CHICAGO — Joining the chorus of Roman Catholic clergy in Illinois criticizing President Barack Obama before next week's election, Peoria Bishop Daniel Jenky ordered priests to read a letter to parishioners on Sunday before the presidential election, explaining that politicians who support abortion rights also reject Jesus.

"By virtue of your vow of obedience to me as your Bishop, I require that this letter be personally read by each celebrating priest at each Weekend Mass," Jenky wrote in a letter circulated to clergy in the Catholic Diocese of Peoria.

In the letter, Jenky cautions parishioners that Obama and a majority of U.S. senators will not reconsider the mandate that would require employers, including religious groups, to provide free birth control coverage in their health care plans. "This assault upon our religious freedom is simply without precedent in the American political and legal system," Jenky wrote.

"Today, Catholic politicians, bureaucrats, and their electoral supporters who callously enable the destruction of innocent human life in the womb also thereby reject Jesus as their Lord," Jenky added. "They are objectively guilty of grave sin."

Earlier this year, Jenky delivered a controversial homily criticizing the contraception mandate. The bishop included Obama's policies in a list of historic challenges the Catholic Church has overcome in previous centuries, including Hitler and Stalin's campaigns.

Jenky is the third Illinois Catholic leader to offer pointed guidance for Catholic voters in recent weeks. Last month, Springfield Bishop Thomas Paprocki offered a commentary on the Democratic and Republican parties' platforms that he said wasn't intended as instruction, but guidance.

"There are many positive and beneficial planks in the Democratic Party Platform, but I am pointing out those that explicitly endorse intrinsic evils," Paprocki explained in the Springfield Diocese newspaper.

"Again, I am not telling you which party or which candidates to vote for or against," he said. "But I am saying that you need to think and pray very carefully about your vote, because a vote for a candidate who promotes actions or behaviors that are intrinsically evil and gravely sinful makes you morally complicit and places the eternal salvation of your own soul in serious jeopardy."

Furthermore, in the Rockford Diocese, Vicar General Eric Barr compared Obama's support of religious freedom in Muslim countries to his lack of support for Catholic liberty.

"Meanwhile, Obamacare marches on, steamrolling Catholic morality and the First Amendment under its weight. How can that be tolerated by citizens?" Barr wrote.

"Nothing justifies this peculiar and unreal stance of the president," he said.

Spokeswoman Colleen Dolan said she doesn't expect Chicago's Cardinal Francis George to issue any statements before the election.

There are fewer because today do many churches resemble the world. My hat off to this man who's boldly shouting out a warning against a terrible sin!! Supporting Obama and those like him is just flat out wrong

Too many churches spread Dogma instead of hope! Too many people have had their eyes open to the truth! Science matters!

100 hundred years from now only our faith in Christ will matter to every human on this planet for eternity last forever. Those who've received Christ will spend eternity in joyful bliss in His Presence - those who don't will spend an eternity in Hell

Matthew 6:5
“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.
Matthew 6:6
But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

There's a group that's just itching for the IRS to attempt to do so in order for them to challenge the Constitutionality of that bogus law created in the Johnsom administration

From The Creation Museum website:

Be prepared to experience history in a completely unprecedented way.

The state-of-the-art 70,000 square foot museum brings the pages of the Bible to life, casting its characters and animals in dynamic form and placing them in familiar settings. Adam and Eve live in the Garden of Eden. Children play and dinosaurs roam near Eden’s Rivers.

So? They've recently found dinosaur bones with soft tissue in them - how would that survive the eons that non-believer scientist try to claim has past but either way, you're way off on a tangent here

It would not pass muster...There is no right to be tax exempt.........That right could and would simply be taken away......On what grounds could churches fight paying taxes???.......   ....none........ :12224

I say go ahead and tax all the churches anyway, that way they can indocternate/preach however they wish, as well as open up some tax money money to the municpalities.

They're a 'non-profit organization' is the reason why. Churches are funded by the tithe's of their members who have ALREADY paid taxes on their money. You have NO Constitutional right to try to stop the church from preaching to it's members their beliefs. How can a man (or a woman) separate from their faith? You can't. It's a part of who we are. Abuck, this man must have felt like the Holy Spirit lead him to do this. Now, I know you don't understand the doctrine of the Holy Spirit but who are you to tell him to disobey GOD?

Planned Parenthood is a 'tax free non - profit organization' that the Government funds with tax payer dollars. Now, that's really messed up.

You really don't know how things work, do you Tuck?

The purchases the churches make are tax exempt. The land the churches are on are tax exempt. Those bingo/casino nights are tax exempt.

A ban on church intervention in political campaigns became law in 1954 with the passage of then-Senator Lyndon Johnson's amendment to Internal Revenue Code (IRC) section 501(c)(3), which covers tax-exempt charitable organizations in general......... Under the amended IRC, churches and all other 501(c)(3) charities are "absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office" if they are to remain tax-exempt. ..................Mark 12:17.................... :12224
