The Appalachian Trail

Post by Orange and Brown »

So........
In February 2019 I'll be starting my attempt at thru hiking the 2,000+ mile Appalachian Trail.
It's been a dream of mine since I was a kid. I've been a hiker/baclpacker for many many years. I'll be hiking the AT in memory of my father who passed away in July 2016.

Hiking the AT is expensive with food resupplies hostels every week or so to shower and do laundry, I've set up a Go Fund Me account.
This was actually very hard for me to do because I've never been one to ask for anything from anyone......But I was encouraged to do it by people I trust so I did.
If you feel like donating a dollar or 2 you will forever be in my debt and I will be very thankful.
If you don't, that's okay too. I completely understand.
Thank you all in advance!

Normal estimates are 5 to 6 months. I'm positive I can do it in 5 so I'll start in February and should be done by the end of June.

Sounds like an exciting adventure O&B. Vermont and Maine will be a treat for a scenic ending. Have fun and keep safe along the way.

I think you may be starting too early. I got trapped by a huge snowfall on the Va segment in late April in the early '90's. Do you need to be off the trail by July?

Good luck on one of America's last great adventures. You are wise to have logistics preplanned and appear to have the trek well thought out. I know a couple from WV who completed the AT as their honeymoon. The positive transformation in their character was amazing. I wish for you nothing less. Of course being in South Carolina, I do have to mention the running Appalachian Trail joke about our former governor, Mark Sanford.

This is on my bucket list, but will have to wait another 20+ years before I can retire. Best of luck!

If I can thru hike the AT, the PCT will be on my list afterwards. I don't think I'll ever attempt the CDT (to treacherous for me) so the triple crown is off the table.
If I was rich I'd do both the At and PCT NOBO and SOB though.
