DIRT TRACK WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP???

Post by beaverlover »

We locals here in SE Ohio have got to enjoy this race, while still being able to sleep in our own beds on those cold October nights......So has anyone heard if it's coming back to K-C next year? I heard it may be held at Lawrenceburg Speedway in Indiania.Having such a prestigious race so close was awesome the few years we had it....but I would say it's being moved from what I'm hearing :( :(

What was that racing link you gave me before Hammerdown?

I'd lay 1/9 odds that it will be at Lawrenceburg. I was there for their annual "Funfest" which is held every year on the weekend before the DTWC. The current Lawrenceburg promoter was camped out next to us and he told us that he had a BIG event coming in 2009 but he could not tell us what it was yet. Over the following days, Carl and his staff were on the grounds touring the place with Dave Rudisell (the promoter) and they were even wearing their "DTWC Staff" T-shirts. It did not appear to me that they were too concerned about being spotted either.

For those of you who have never been to Lawrenceburg or for that matter, if you have not been there in the last year or so, you are in for a shock. I've been to hundreds of race tracks and raced on MANY of them. But I have yet to find a facility or race track on the short track level that compares. This is now THE dirt track facility in the midwest and the accomodations are WAY better than at KC.

You will now have a county fairgrounds with electric hookups and a permanent concrete restroom building WITH showers AND hot water!! You will be right across the street from the Argosy casino and you are within walking distance of restaraunts, hotels, etc. The race track is less than 300 yards from the city limits. The new state of the art seating will make you feel like you are at a Nascar facility. Bleachers now wrap 2/3 of the way around the track!! If you get bored on Friday night, you can walk to the top of the floodwall behind the bleachers, and watch the Lawerenceburg Tigers high school football game.

Personally, I think Carl has picked the best track in the midwest for his event. After you all visit the place, I bet you agree!!

Agree with your comments on Lawrenceburg, went to a Summer Nationals show there....that place is awesome, nice facilities, good racing, and GAMBLING right across the street.......It probably is a good move by Carl Short $$$$$ wise...I just loved having it so close to home......but I' travel farther to see other races,World 100,Dream,Hillbilly100,so I guess I'll survive........From what I'm also hearing KC may not even have 1 race in 2009....that would suck..to nice of a track to let set.

I won't even offer 1 to 9 odds now. It is a lock. L'Burg just put out their schedule. I've been running their last event of the year EVERY single season for the last 10 years in a row. It was ALWAYS the 2nd weekend of October and it was Funfest. The new schedule has a 3 day event the weekend AFTER Funfest which is always the DTWC weekend. Most 3 day events are Fri-Sat-Sun, but the one with the "TBA" on the L'Burg site is a Thur-Fri-Sat. The only race in October that runs on a Thursday night while school is in session.......The DTWC. They should just go ahead and make the announcement.

I would agree with you..just looked at Lawrenceburg's schedule...pretty much saying it without saying it......however go look at KC schedule on that weekend it also says $50,000 to win TBA on the same dates........I hope whoever is running KC next year whether it be Nier or whoever.......I hope they do not get in a pissing contest and schedule against it.......just hurts the fans when tracks do that.

I agree with that last post. Some of the earliest memories of my life are from Pennsboro. I can remember sitting under the covered wooden grandstand for the Hillbilly 100 in the September heat. Although it was muggy and miserable all packed in there, it was better than sitting out and roasting under the sun. The biggest problem with Pennsboro was that it had no lights. Then, after the grandstand burned in 1981 (They were almost 100 years old) it really hurt the place too. I think that is another one of the tracks that we can say goodbye to. I miss it too though.

The DTWC at Pennsboro was always awesome to go too........Remeber the year Eckert lapped up to 2nd place and had a half a lap lead on Moyer, and blew a tire, that sucked........I have always liked Eckert.

Sprinter 14:Tell RJ yaddayadda,I said hi!

He said he was going to dominate Lunbeck in '09

Charlie was definitely my favorite when I first started watching........But Charlie's biggest success was before my time......Made my 1st trip and 1st dirt track race to Eldora for the World 100 in '94........Don't get me wrong,he was still kicking a$$ then, but nothing like he did in the 80's.........Truly a legend of the sport.......and was a well deserving 1st ballot hall of famer.

Charlie is going to make a return to racing at Lunbeck Speedway. We planned to have him and Delmas Conley here for a race back in November, but the Portsmouth banquet was the same night. We have planned it again for a Thursday night this coming summer. There may be some other dirt track legends on hand to race that night too. I will post it on here in case anyone wants to attend.

Beaver, the only thing RJ dominates is the concession stand.

I was fortunate enough to have seen and remember the incredible victory by Jim Dunn at Pennsboro in the DTWC. Jim had trouble in his heat on Saturday and had to come through the consy. Then he started in the last row of the feature and came charging to the front. What I remember most was my dad getting so excited for him. He was still a relative unknown to most outside his Roseville area home but he had been coming down to Southern and was the only out of towner who could give Delmas and Charlie a run for their money. We became fans of Jim because he was such an underdog and that day at Pennsboro, he pulled off the near impossible. Jim would probably have been racing right up to today and no doubt would have been a force in the sport, but he died in a fiery crash in an NDRA race in Paducah, KY in May of 1983.

KC has been purchased by Jeff Schrader. There is a schedule on KC's website showing a big race Oct 1,2,3. Not the DTWC though. Hopefully it will be as good though.

I heard they rotate the Champ race between tracks on occasion. I will miss it being at KC. But I will travel and Camp at Lowes Motor Speedway for the Late Model and Sprint finals. Great racing. :12222
