Rocky Top Raceway prepares to host Buckeye Nationals April 24th
By: T. J. Layne

COAL GROVE, OH-Coming off of a successful Opening Night that saw R. J. Conley (Late Models), Adam Colley (Modifieds), Wayne Hughes (Bombers), and Tony Sites (Mod Lites) take the wins, the Rocky Top Raceway is preparing to host the Buckeye Nationals, one of the largest races in the history of the track.

The Buckeye Nationals will feature a double-special as the Late Models will run a 40 lap feature paying $4,000 to win with the Mod Lites running a 30 lap feature paying $1,000 to win. Bombers will also be racing for $350 to win. Modifieds will not be racing. The race is set for Friday, April 24th but if rains would happen to hit, the race will be ran on Saturday, April 25th.

With $4,000 to win and an overall purse of $13,900, most of the regions top dirt Late Model stars are expected to be in attendance for the Late Model portion of the Buckeye Nationals. An exciting format similar to the one used by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series will be adopted to set the field for the 40 lap feature. If three heat races are held, the top two finishers from each heat will redraw for starting positions 1-6 in the feature. If four or more heats are held, only the winners will redraw. Previous RTR Late Model special event winners include Jackie Boggs, R. J. Conley, Tim Dohm, Eddie Carrier Jr., and Steve Francis.

The Mod Lite portion of the Buckeye Nationals will feature one of the largest races held in the country for that class. Drivers from as far as Canada are expected to be in attendance as North America’s best Mod Lite drivers come to chase the prestigious Buckeye Nationals prize. Last years Mod Lite special saw an incredible race as Pennsylvania driver Mike Hay came from last to take the win. KS Vinyl Graphics will be offering a $50 hard charger award and TJK Racing LLC will offer a $50 bonus for a randomly drawn finishing position.

General admission to the Buckeye Nationals is only $18, a very good deal considering race fans will get to see two special event races on the same night. Kids 7-12 general admission is $5 and kids six and under get in free. Pit Admission is $30. Gates will open at 4:00 pm with Hot Laps starting the nights action at 7:30 pm.
