The Largest CRASH in Nascar History

And I doubt this record will ever be broken.

It happened in 1960 at Daytona Superspeedway. At the time 68 cars were allowed to start races on superspeedways. Today's starting fields are limited to 43 at all races. Top speeds in 1960 reached around 150 mph, as compared to over 200 mph now.

The crash occured just after the the start of the race. As the front pack pulled away from the field the wreck unfolded and...well, you'll see it in the video. A total of 37 cars were involved, about a dozen were destroyed, and at least six rolled onto their roof. Amazingly, although a few drivers had scratches and bruises, no one was seriously injured. If you listen carefully you'll hear the names of some legendary NASCAR pioneers.
