I think we will do fine as long a certian individual doesn't tip off the North Adams coaching staff like they have at other times.

Touche, Dave, But P-town has never been feared since they ran the coach from Williamson out. The 3 regional appearances were because of a lack of quality opponents. Don't get me wrong, I'm rootin' hard for the Trojans , but the mystic from when I was in school is long gone. Good luck to Coach Shoe and the "Trojan Explosion".

rockfish,

Are you speaking of the top-secret plays located within the lock-box which resides in the man-size safe which only you and Peter Edward Rose know about? You must remember...you can never trust a man who defamed the game of baseball.

Something tells me if Portsmouth had played an SOC II schedule like they will be doing here in a few years, this team would be about 16-4 or 15-5, and people would be talking about what a great season they've had (plus they'd be about a 3 or 4 seed). They beat quality teams like Burg and Minford, and they played teams like Chesapeake, Ironton and Marietta tough on the road. So, I don't see any reason why they can't pull this upset off. Good luck Trojans.*

trojan dave,
how many district finals has portsmouth played in? in other areas of the state you have to play 3 games or 2 if you get a bye to win a sectional championship and only one district game, the district finals. i agree 59 sectionals are impressive but if they did things in the southeast like the rest of the state how many would they have?

sparky,

I can't speak for trojandave, but the proof is in the stats you just referred to. Regardless of how they did it, they did it as well or better then anyone in this area. Portsmouth undoubtedly has been considered one of the elite programs over the years. I have traveled all over the State of Ohio (including leaving in two of our major cities). People who know basketball talk about the Trojans. To win mulitiple State Championships over that span of time is remarkable in itself. P-Town is not a big city, but they sure beat the big city teams when they got to C-Bus. Ask Collin Irish and the Cleveland Cathedral Latin teams, or some of the others they knocked off.

Ah, come on sparky. You are changing the rules. You asked how many they have played in. I don't think anybody from P-town will disagree that the program has been down for the past decade, but we are talking about the whole body of work.

In any event, back to the N.A. vs Trojans game, I see where N/A destroyed the #3 Seed D2 Hillsboro squad. That does tell me something. However, IMO, I don't see anyone in Southern Ohio stopping Williams. If Horne, Bendolph and Johnson join in and play D, then this will be one fine game. N.A.'s coach is one of the best around and does not get the credit deserved. But I am sure, he would rather be playing any other 9 seed but Portsmouth. They are not scared, but they have to be a bit nervous. This team can put 80 pts on the board real quick.

GO CAVS!!!

What is the seating capacity at Waverly?

Whatever it is I don't think it will be enough. Both schools have great traditions and that adds hype to the game.

Waverly gym is one of the big ones. Not sure what it seats, but you can look way up in the balcony section and not see the top. IMO with a 6:00 game everyone gets in, but it will be loud. Remember Waverly will be playing at the same time up at Southeastern. You will lose the basketball junkies from Waverly. However, what a great game for the Southeast District on Friday night.

North Adams will bring a huge crowd as they always do and I'm sure Portsmouth will bring a good sized contingent up US 23. I actually think it will be a much better atmosphere at Waverly than it would have been at the Convo and its not nearly the drive.

many city schools throughout ohio have fallen off over the years because so many people are moving to the suburbs or the country. portsmouth falls into that category and are no longer the big dog on the block. how much has their enrollment decreased over the past 10 to 20 years compared to the rest of southeast ohio?

Portsmouth in the 80's and early 90's were unbelieveable! However, this year's Portsmouth team is very athletic but differs from those old teams in a couple of regards. First, those teams of the past went 10 deep with not a lot of dropoff from 1 to 10 (at least defensively). 2nd, they pressed you the whole game with an attitude. You couldnt relax for a minute without having someone right in front of you slapping at the ball. I didnt see that against Minford. Sure they forced a few turnovers but nothing like teams of the past. Hard to make comments only seeing one game but they seem to be ball-watchers on offense and have trouble moving without the ball. Everybody stands around and watches whoever has it go one on one. Penetrating is great if their are players cutting to the basket and cutting to open spots while the player is driving. Just my opinions. Dont get offended Portsmouth fans.
