[quote="thecinderellapick"]The problem at Western is that no one in charge knows what it takes to "build a program". There will be no effort to find the best candidate to take the job. The vacancies created by Harrop's resignation will be filled by people that the board likes (in house) and the so-called program will spiral ever downward...

I'm not so sure about that CP. They have a very knowledgeable and hard working coach in place right now named David Kight. He has been a J.V. coach at Jackson and Western now and has been a varsity assistant under Coaches Bowman, Ford, May and Harrop now. Coach Ford and May have since moved on to the college levels. You will not find a harder working or more loyal candidate around. He is definitely ready for his own program and Western would be lucky to have him.

Why wouldn't he get another varsity job? That's ridiculous. As good as his record was in his brief stint at Western, he will get another varsity job if he chooses to get back into coaching. Look at some of the other head coaches in Southern Ohio and the reputations they have. If they can get hired as head coaches, then surely someone would hire Trent.

Winchell I agree with the post about Coach Kight. He seems like a fine man and coach. He appears to really like the kids and they like and respect him too. He also appears to have discipline. I like him alot. I would hope he'd get the head coaching job. sneake-pete are you smokin' something??? I have heard that Jason CLAYTOR would be the JV coach. NOT Jason RIGSBY!!! But I wouldn't be surprised by that choice. I wouldn't be surprised what the board hires. Maybe they'll just eliminate the program....

Western has always been a tough place to coach ,Howard was from there and he got ran out, anyone who comes in from outside the area never stays very long, that is why they get alot of first year coaches who stay a couple of years and then move on.

Coach May is at Columbus State. They were the number one ranked JUCO college in the country going into they're national tournament, but got upset last night.

Coach Kight (if he applies) will do you well. Everywhere he coaches the players like him and he does have discipline. He will out work anybody in the business.

I don't know coach Kight, I just quoted another poster who made that post. I was asking where coach May was now?

Harrop is not his dad people, we are all sitting at home right now because of his coaching style. My Grandma could have won with as much talent, and experience as we had these past two years. I really feel sorry for these young men, who two years ago had a great coach (Phil Howard), and the last two have worked more on sideline press breakers than on getting better. I am glad to see him go. I hope that coach Kite is the next coach. He will get results from his players. I don't dislike coach Harrop but, his coaching ability is just not there.

Van Henry know that is a name from the past or Maybe Phil Howard will come back   Hate to see your coach go if he was forced out too many coaches leaving because of parents.

"Harrop is not his dad people, we are all sitting at home right now because of his coaching style."

So Western would still be playing in the tournament?

Some parents need a reality check. :-D

Your comment regarding no powerhouse next year is absurd. If you were paying any attention you would know about Flint, Cooper, Bakenhaster. They WILL be a powerhouse. Yes, we lose the experience of Smithson and Shanks, but Bakenhaster and Cooper can handle the inside.

As to comments regarding the coaching ability of Phil Howard, a monkey could have coached with the talent he had with the '08 team, except the monkey would have won the regional final by applying pressure the last few minutes.

Harrop is an excellent coach and I hate to see him leave. I hope the Western school board will make the right decision in placing David Kight as head coach. Good luck to Coach Harrop in all future endeavors.

Harrop won more games before Christmas in his first season as the head coach there than Gabby won in his entire 3 years! That would be a real smart trade! Western could go from 17, 21, 16, and 16 wins in the last four years to seasons of 5, 4, and 3 that Gabby had!

Scarlet, nothing personal against the 3 kids you mentioned, but you have got to be kidding if you really want to compare those three players to Shanks, Smithson and Penwell and say they are going to be a powerhouse! That statement alone removes any credibility you have and is almost a slap in the face to Shanks, Smithson, and Penwell. Those guys might be good kids but they have a ways to go to get to that level of play!

Dave Kight would be a great choice as the new coach and deserves a shot at the job, but it has been proven in the last four years that it doesn't matter how well someone does there. Last 4 years resulted in about a 70-20 record, 2 league championships, 3 sectional titles, 1 district title, 1 loss in the regional final at the buzzer (that a monkey could have won), 3 kids scoring 1000 career points and almost a 4th one, at least 2 or three district coach of the year awards, and yet 2 coaches have been let go!

The new coach will assume a team that is graduating nine players. How many varsity points and rebounds are returning for next year? Oh yes, and the new coach better play the board members kid or he definitely won't be around. Harrop probably could have saved his job if he would have started him and ran a few plays for him. Better get your app in quick on this one! I heard thay are only going to consider the first 100 apps!

If Kight doesn't want it maybe Van Henry would come back - even though they treated him like crap when he was there before. He did a pretty good job and won a lot of games but was never ever appreciated for it.

Harrop deserved a better fate! Another great move by the powers to be!

WI-FAN22,

Maybe you should apply for the job??? Then we could watch Western play for a state title every year since you obviously have so much knowledge about coaching....Just how well do you know Coach Harrop's dad? You must know him since you ar staing his son is not the coach he is
