Re: GRANDVIEW VS PIKETON
I think Piketon has all the tools needed to not only get to the Final Four, but to possibly bring home a state championship. I have had the oppurtunity to watch Piketon every tournament game they have played thus far. Excellent guard play, skilled, physical bigs, and a good bench. If the streeks take care of the ball, I see them being a tough out for anybody. I don't know anything about Cleveland Catholic Central or Smithville besides their respective sports in the AP State basketball poll, but did get to see a half of the Grandview regional semi at the convo, and from that I feel that Piketon has to be the favorite. I look for another tight one with Piketon advancing to Columbus. I've talked to a few people from Piketon and one told me that this tournament run was a little earlier coming than what they had thought, it is my understanding that their are very talented young players coming up. It seems to me that they have gelled well with the veterans on this team.
Re: GRANDVIEW VS PIKETON
I watched the entire Grandview/Buckeye Trail game and wasnt impressed at all. I thought that maybe Grandview was playing to the level of the competition because in my opinion they didnt play very well on the offensive end. On defense they love that 1-3-1 half court trap and do it very well. however, like most people have said, Piketon will be a whole different animal on this because Evan will simply dribble right through this and i garauntee you he wont stop just past half court and pick up his dribble. No one has been able to press Piketon thus far and I dont see Grandview being able to as well. I also felt that Grandview didnt use their big guy well at all (#44). He was the biggest player on the court by probably 3 or 4 inches and only had like 5 points? If their scheme is no better than that how can they handle the size of Piketon?
The ONLY thing that worries me is that the streaks might feel like they are heading to Columbus without playing the game and get bit. They had to prepare mentally very much for North Adams and knew they had to come out and play their best game of the year and they did for 3 1/2 qtrs. If they come out with the same intensity then they win.
PIketon: DO NOT OVERLOOK, i know the coaches won't let this happen but go into this game mentally the same way and keep rollin.

Re: GRANDVIEW VS PIKETON
Lucasville Valley`s biggest player was 6-2 and they beat Grandview with constant pressure may be a great matchup for Piketon. Only a couple of teams south of Columbus left rying to get to the State Tourney.

Re: GRANDVIEW VS PIKETON
From my observation, my biggest complaint with the streaks is just like in the NA game. I thought they tend to celebrate a little too much and a little too early. I saw brush thumping his chest with 2:40 to go. I saw Brabson bouncing around nodding his head up and down about 30 seconds after that. I turned and said to my wife, this ain't over! And sure enough NA made a nice run at the end, because PHS couldn't close the deal on the free throw line.
I want to see the boys play 32 minutes of focused basketball! I don't care what the score is. They will have all weekend to celebrate a great feat. Act like you have had a lead before (IF YOU HAVE ONE) and then get focused for the big prize. I would like to see Legg and Smith who seem to be the calmer players in crunch time to get the team together and huddle up during fouls shots and dead balls when the opportunity arises and keep they're team focused. Maybe I'm being too harsh, I know they are just kids, but eyes on the big prize. These memories will last forever!
Good luck, I want to see you play at the Schott!

Re: GRANDVIEW VS PIKETON
I have freinds in the Columbus area that said these Grandview kids can flat light up the three ball even though they didnt Wed night. They have also beat some very good teams to get where they are. Do not make the mistake of over looking them. At this point in the tourny every team is a good team that knows how to win. with that said

Pretty nice turnaround by the Streaks after losing to the Burg last year by 35. I think this game has the makings of like the game the Burg played in the regional final a few years ago against Tusky Valley. It wasn't even a game and Burg had that one over by the end of the 1st qtr.
I say Piketon by as many as they want.

Re: GRANDVIEW VS PIKETON
Jimmy,
You're right about Legg being able to keep his dribble alive. There were several times the other night it looked like there were 10 hands reaching for the ball, slapping it, he's fumbling for it, and then all of a sudden he gets control of it and dishes a perfect pass under the bucket. As you said, he has superb conditioning, but I hope Vulgamore is able to come off the bench and take off some of the heat for at least a little bit. Although he made a few mistakes, I thought he gave the team a nice spark and Evan a little breather.
Out of bounds...good post. Although I do like a little mean streak in my players (which Piketon has), the showmanship takes away from the team and also the fact that these are all really good kids.

You cannot change who you are, although I am not fond of the bravado and the beards, Coach has embraced the personality and talent of these kids, and they are terrific.

Re: GRANDVIEW VS PIKETON
These boys are not using their bravado to show up their opponents in any way. They are just having fun, playing a game they love and doing it well. If the worst thing you can find about them is that they are a little to cocky for you, then they are doing well! lol
There is a fine line between cocky and confident, these boys dont cross it. IMO
Game day, Lets Go Streaks!
