Who are all the players coming back and coming up and what does this season look like for the pirates?

Re: Wheelersburg Basketball 2009-2010
Well, since there were no seniors on the team last season everyone will be back. With the addition of Bendolph from Portsmouth they should be a lot stronger at the guard position and they now have an outside shooting threat that hopefully will loosen things up for Stegman in the paint. I look for them to be a very strong defensive team again just like last season and hopefully a little stronger on offense.
I don't look for anyone to move up from the JV to varsity next season unless a few decide not to play. The only ones I see that could get some time on varsity would be Webb Ballard, Drew Parsley, and Andy Sloan.
It should definitely be an exciting season next year at Wheelersburg.

i doubt any former jv players from last year will see any varsity time. 11 potential returners from varstiy last year and 12 jv players. should be an interesting summer for burg basketball.

What about any of the incoming freshman? I know of at least one quality player. Do you think any of them will dress varsity or see any playing time?

There are some athletes in the incoming freshman class, but dont see any playing Varsity ball, maybe a couple starting JV...

As an outside observer, I agree with 91 Grad. Massie and McBee will start on the JV team. There is a big log jam at guard for Burg the next 4 years including guards in the 7th grade right now.

Just a quick question.....do these kids transferring in, do they all play on the same AAU team or anything?

Good for Burg. If this is true, they are following the Oak Hill, South Webster, and Cowgill/Miller route to the states. The truth is it is very hard to advance without getting an AAU type team together. The only question is are their enough basketballs to go around?

Re: Wheelersburg Basketball 2009-2010
Why don't we just put all the kids in a pool and draft them to play at certain high schools. This is getting out of hand the state needs to step in and clamp down on this transfering stuff. I know it goes on every where but enough is enough. Then you wonder why kids are not coming out to play or you don't get the support from the local business, because they can not relate with a team or kids they know only as transfers. I think this kind of stuff is playing a role in the pay to play era, that is becoming poular way to make a buck!!!

I havent heard anything on the Evans kids coming into Burg. Is he enrolled in school? IMO, I find that hard to believe with today being the last day for students. He may enroll in the fall but I'll have to see it to believe it. A good rule of thumb is to not believe everything you read on here unless there is proof in the pudding.

With what the top 7 or 8 returning, Lang healthy again, and with Bendolph and Evans that is a 10 man rotation. Someone is going to sit that was starting. But, this should be a tournament run team.

I saw a few Burg bb games last winter and believe me there is room for some good basketball players. The burg had good athletes but not real good basketball players. In my humble opinion. There were a few but not up to Burgs standards.

But seriously Wayne will be a sophomore, I wouldn't be surprised if he cracked the varsity lineup next year...with that being said guard play at the burg will be sick. I hate it cause I was hoping he'd return home to Portsmouth. He'd start for Portsmouth in my opinion. With Bendolph and Horne gone. So to get a varsity quality player in the program and he may not even sniff the floor tells you the kind of season Wheelersburg may be looking at. But honestly I really like this kid. I think he's special. Let's just wait and see.
WOW.....I hate to hear that he left Ironton, he's one heck of a basketball player. He was part of a great Freshmen class followed by one of the best 8th grade classes Ironton has seen in a long long time. All I can say is good luck at Wheelersburg.
Can we get Stegman in a trade or something

Re: Wheelersburg Basketball 2009-2010
with open enrollment when was the last time anyone won with their own. this is what open enrollment gets you. not a fan of open enrollment and never have been. if you want to go to a school outside of your district for educational reasons then fine. they should not be allowed to participate in sports. if you play sports then move to the district you want to play in. problem solved.
