Whitley is NOT playing this year officially I heard...that does hurt there depth, but he was not a major scoring threat, just a good ball handler and very athletic. Through coffee talk I heard that Kemper might not be playing either, anyone hear this..? This would be a big hit to the team! What are these kids thinking??!!! I hope this isn't true....please update!

most area teams could only dream of having the talent that coach runs off because of his attitude and dictatorship over the program. he takes all the fun out of the game. that is why these kids dont play its not the work its not the game its the coach. enough said!!!!!

chaingang-Kids make choices. Nobody is "running" them off. It is their choice to play plain and simple.

Burg will be Burg. No matter who is playing, they will step up, they will work hard, and they will support each other.

This is one of the most rediculous statements i have ever read. Coach B is not a dictator. WINNING is fun. SUCCESS is fun. If kids choose not to play by claiming Coach B takes the fun out of basketball.....well there is always the other schools in the SOC. The "talent" run themselves off. If they really were "great" players, they would be happy to play for a coach and program as successful as Wheelersburg, and they would be able to play for a coach as demanding as Coach B. Chaingang is just making excusses for quitters. Simple as that.

Nobody is running anyone off. Kids make a decision to play the game or they decide not to play. The rules and expectations are covered every year to parents and players from the jr. high level all the way through high school.

The "fun" comes from winning and knowing before you ever go into a game that you have been prepared. The "fun" comes from knowing what is going to be run by the opposing team because you have already seen the scouting report and practiced against those plays. Most players can sit on the bench and call out opponents sets. The "fun" comes from going in at halftime and having adjustments made and then coming back out and seeing them work. The "fun" comes from going to the sectional, district and sometimes regional and state. All Burg coaches do an excellent job of preparing kids and doing their jobs.

Kids need discipline..Barrick enforces discipline, that is why they are successful..period. Part of winning is teaching kids discipline, yes cutting your hair, respect, being on time, dressing nice on game-day, and much more. That is part of Barricks Kick-as* basketball system he drives. If you don't like that, go somewhere else and fart around there....Barrick is stubborn, no doubt about it..but he knows how to win and make kids "student athletes".

Heard burg doesn't have enough boys to make a jv team and freshman team, so freshman boys will have to play both schedules. Anyone have any details on this???

Yep, it is true. Went to the Burg website and the rosters are up. Only one Sophomore on the JV. Freshmen class should gain a lot of experience from this. Should be a pretty good class also.

You're still only permitted so many quarters, right? I thought it was 80 quarters for the regular season regardless of whether it's freshman, JV, or varsity.

it's 90 quarters.. How can these boys play back to back games every week and from the look of the schedule they have a triple header.

What happened to all of the boys that played last year for this team?

Not having Whitley, Craigmiles, or Kemper is really going to affect the depth of this years team. Where I figured they could go 8 or 9 deep this year and not lose a step, I see it being about 6 or 7 deep now. Shankweiler wil be out for a while so that takes the depth down even more for a few games. Will be very interesting, and I'm sure very entertaining, at the Burg this season.

Also, it's going to be rough, if not almost impossible, for the JV team to play all 20 JV games and a freshman schedule as well. How are they going to do a triple header, have them play two games in a row or sacrifice losing one to win the other by spliiting up the team?

I have a feeling their varsity squad wont be top in SOC due to their depth right now but they will be fine and steady

Ironically this Burg Team played the whole summer with the kids on the squad and were pretty darn successful. I know for a fact they held their own against D2 schools @ Denison this summer. What this squad lacks in "depth" it makes up for in heart and determination. They may not have the "talent" down the roster that people are expecting, but exceptional athletes are not just the 1s who give you 20 points a game. Look for a very scrappy Burg team who will not back down from any 1 As for SOC...let it be decided on the court

So it's 90 quarters for the season but it is also only 5 quarters per night. I know in the past if a kid played 2 quarters JV he had 3 he could play in the varsity game. But if you do 5 per night that adds up to 100 quarters through 20 games so you actually can't do 5 quarters every night.

I don't believe that, both would have played major minutes.
