Coference strength comes in cycles in Southeastern Ohio, it is usually IMO a 3 horse race.
SOC II
SVC
OVC
This year it was.
1.SVC - Westfall, Piketon, ZT.. way above the rest
2.SOC II
3.OVC
I didnt consider the SEOAL

Re: Best Basketball Conference in Southeast Ohio is?
The really exciting thing about the basketball programs in SE Ohio is that many schools are building great programs and they are now becoming very competitive at the state level. I have followed sports for many years now and I have seen an explosion of schools from our area now going to play in the final four and championship games in Columbus.

Why dont you consider SEOAL?
Re: Best Basketball Conference in Southeast Ohio is?
I would imagine that the exclusion of the SEOL was because that league extends out of the immediate SE area. Not sure, but I would agree with Runner00 on that.

Re: Best Basketball Conference in Southeast Ohio is?
Every school in the SEOAL is a member of the SE District......Zanesville is no longer in the league........If the TVC, OVC, SOC, and SVC are considered in the "immediate" area of the SE district, how can the SEOAL not be?
Also, Portsmouth was 5-0 vs. a strong SOC last year, but 3-10 in the SEOAL.......in most years, the SEOAL offers the most challenging regular season schedule in the SE district. Undefeated SHL champion North Adams barely squeaked by the 10-12 Trojans 77-75 in OT in the sectional final.

Trojandave: You make a good point about the SEOAL. I was thinking about the time/s that teams such as Zanesville, Lancaster and Newark were/are in the Conference and thought that it was more representative of central Ohio. I guess
the acronym for the SEOAL speaks for it's self, haha.
However, I never intentionally excluded the SEOAL from consideration. You would have to view the previous submissions by others on here and note that i was commenting on their submission/s.

Re: Best Basketball Conference in Southeast Ohio is?
lancaster and newark were never in the seoal to my knowledge. zanesville for a couple short periods of time. other than that, southeastern ohio athletic league pretty much sums it up.
Re: Best Basketball Conference in Southeast Ohio is?
Oak Hill was State Camps and lost two games in the SOC Il. Waverly finished middle of the pack in the SOC ll and gave SVC Champs Piketon all they could handle.
The SVC did have a very nice year with several very good teams. But over the last decade I'd give the edge to the SOC ll.

As in most sports the order goes like this
1. SEOAL
2.blank
3.blank
4.everyone else.
The SEOAL is head and shoulders above every other league down here top to bottom talent wise. Sure Piketon could have competed last year.(they wouldnt have won). Wheelersburg would compete every year. Even when Zanesville was in it. But top to bottom no league can come close. Portsmouth was the second worse team in the SEOAL last year. They went undefeated against the SOC and knocked off some of the SOCs top teams. The SVC people know the deal also and dont even play SEOAL schools. There are a lot of very good teams in SEO but only one good league and that is the SEOAL.

I believe Waverly beat Chilli and Piketon beat Waverly at Waverly...Piketon spanked Ironton in the District who also beat Chilli, also Piketon beat 5 League Champions last season. In addition I believe they have Zanesville and Marietta on the schedule this year. So you can save that argument for another time.

I think that the soc has more than proved its self over the past few years look at webster state champ, oak hill state champ, and inbetween there mix in the burgs run a few years ago i think for rural schools like the all are they have represented the league and area very well.

Re: Best Basketball Conference in Southeast Ohio is?
In the regular season, I still think the SEOAL offers the most challenging regular season schedule of any league in most years........
In the post season, the Southern Hills League has the best record of sending the most teams to the regionals or the state over the last 15 years........and the schools that I am talking about in the SHL are the ones that are members of the SE District.......Lynchburg Clay, Whiteoak, North Adams, and Eastern Brown have all made the state tourney from the SHL, which is more than any other league in SE Ohio. In addition the SHL has produced a lot of teams that at least made the district finals or beyond. Georgetown, which is a SHL and Southwest District member, won the D4 state title in 2007.

Re: Best Basketball Conference in Southeast Ohio is?
I was just referring to last season....The SVC has sent teams to the Final 4 as well....Southeastern, Unioto, Piketon, etc. I do believe the SEOAL has the most challenging schedule and would agree the SOC has been tournament tested tough in recent years. Everyone has an argument....I guess we just need to start saying "what have you done for me lately" Burg, Oak Hill , South Webster(State Champs or Final 4), Chillicothe, Ironton (State Champs or Final 4), Eastern Brown, Georgetown (State Champs or Final 4), and Piketon (Final 4) in the past 10 years.

Why do you keep mentioning Georgetown? They haven't been in the SHL in 20 years. I know they're location suggest it, but they go towards Cincy for everything.

Re: Best Basketball Conference in Southeast Ohio is?
Out of Bounds: Since Georgetown hasn't been in the SHL for 20 years, I stand corrected then.
Re: Best Basketball Conference in Southeast Ohio is?
Ok so we are all talkin' about this, what happened with the SEOAL folding or teams dropping out?
I would like to see Portsmouth, Ironton, Jackson move into the SOC. I also heard that if Ironton moves in, Ironton St. Joe would want in. If this were to happen, I would like to see Piketon join. Since they are the only team in the SVC in Pike County. It would be more convienient then having to travel to Chillicothe or every game. Then Chillicothe could join in Piketon's spot in the SVC since they are already in Chillicothe.
After that they could just re-group the Division's, move the teams around or add another division.
Let me hear what everyone thinks about this.

Logan is not in the Southeast District for basketball. They go through the Central District.
