Justlooking,

Not trying to sound critical, but this isn't AAU basketball! And winning AAU a few years ago and $3.00 will get you a cup of coffe at Tim Horton's. For the kids, I hope they do well. We will see after they play "organized high school basketball" against some talented teams in the area.

And I hope the coach understands he is there to build a program for the future, not just coach his son and his friends their senior year.

Best of luck to the boys!!!!!

teach123...why are all your posts about belpre negative? i believe belpre will have a very successful season. you wont see the bad attitudes toward the coaches or anything this year like you have for the past 2 seasons. belpre will play good TEAM basketball and should do good in the tournement.

teach123 that is a testament of what the boys are capable of doing besides, I don't like coffee LOL!!!

rickoshay please do not put all the players in the category of bad grades. Most of the players make the grades all year and some are "A" students. Some kids use grades as an excuse not to play ball, some parents live thru their kids and want them to play all the sports and be the best on the team when the kid just doesn't want to play ball anymore. I agree we need to put the scholar back in athlete. At my home it takes a 3.0 to play ball. We all need to remember that its just a game and suppose to be FUN. Enjoy the posts.

If Simms is eligible to play Belpre will have a good year, if not they will be ok but won't win TVC Ohio. They will only have one scorer and that is Tate, everyone else only stands out side the three point line and shoots, and not at a very high percentage. Watkins is not playing so they will need Leasure to step up and Campbell. But without Simms it will be tough to get to the Convo.

Waderker
Parsons
Miller
Tate
Sims...sounds like a pretty solid starting 5, if tate and sims are eligible to play.

Slattery, Campbell, Leasure, Williams, Ullman, and Nestor is a pretty solid core coming off the bench...a lot of experience on this team..could be poised for a breakout year

Hardworks,

SHAME ON YOU the following comment:
"ullman nestor williams and leasure will not see the floor much at all. they are not talented enough to keep up with this group in my opinion. Miller and campbell are all they need off the bench. THE MAIN 7"

The kids read this stuff and for you to come on here and bash children is tacky and outright wrong!!!!!

Come On SEOP, do a better job policing this kinda stuff!

teach123 hardwork65 probably never played basketball but was first team all TVC chess club. Good possbility that both Leasures & Campbell may find alot of time on the floor. Miller will find alot of time on the floor, not sure any sophmores see alot but maybe two frosh might find it. I want this team to have fun and win and don't care who starts but who plays and who finishes.
A message to players that read these post from old men who don't play anymore, IGNORE IT!!! You play ball because you love it, enjoy your time and have a blast again playing basketball. It's your desire and your sweet, blood and tears that makes you a team not anything or anyone else.

Very well said..i played high school basketball for 4 years, and i would do anything if i could go back and do it again..so give it your all, cuz before you know it it will be gone.

As for Belpre basketball, i can't see many sophomores or freshman getting much playing time on varsity. The varsity squad is going to be mostly seniors and juniors (tate, parsons, slattery, sims, campbell, leasure, williams, miller, waderker, ullman), that leaves 2 open spots for varsity who will probably be a combination of hoffman, little leasure, and nestor..i mean this team has 7 seniors and 3 juniors..that doesn't leave a lot of playing time for under classmen unless they can reallllly prove themselves in practice..and i would love to see tyler watkins play, tate, waderker, miller, watkins and sims would be a nasty starting lineup.

i dont see any fresh playing. hoffman is too small and isnt physical enough to play with the other guards on varsity. (tate, slattery, wadeker, miller, and williams) and ryan leasure has the skill but the same as hoffman. he isnt big enough yet but the could both see varsity their sophomore year.

With Ullman not playing and Watkins still up in the air I look for Brooks Sizemore & Ryan Leasure to fill the open spots. Sizemore is big and strong 6'5 240 and the players from open gym time say his is getting better. Coach Parson's hands on coaching style will bring him on as a much improved big man. Although he will see alot of JV time. The little Leasure is 6'3 160 or so and the boys say he is the only freshman lifting and working out showing a real desire to make it. Any addition to this team with a good basketball IQ is only going to be an advantage.
Belpre is ready for basketball season........

It's much tougher to win on a consitant basis in AAU, unless your coaching in a comercial setting(Nike or Addias sponsored type teams). Last time I checked Michael Jordan & NIKE aren't beating down doors in southeastern ohio to sponsor local teams. As for your comment about organized ball well I think that getting 200 teams to travel hundreds sometimes thousands of miles, each playing 5 or 6 games in a 2 or 3 day period is ORGANIZED. In AAU ball you may face 5 or 6 different teams with 3 or 4 different styles of play. There are no "weak" links in the lineup and most all the teams are usually deep. A coach has to have the ability to adapt on the run, communicate with his kids as well as manage the game.
Throw in developing his kids and dealing with parents that have much larger egos concerning their children than the average high school basketball player. I'd say that makes AAU coaching a much tougher gig.

Gotgame,

Minor flaw with your theory! In AAU you get to PICK your talent/players...in public schools you work with the kids that you have.

I wish the new coach success and hope he is in it for the long haul and not just until his kid graduates.

i agree totally, coaching at the varsity level has to be miles more difficult than the AAU level. they dont even compare.

Coach Parsons has coached at the varsity level as an assistant coach with Coach Stout at Belpre, he wasn't the AAU coach for these kids but he has coached these kids at Belpre and he is there for all of them and not just to coach his son. These kids will be very successful under Coach Parsons and you can look for them to win a lot of ballgames this year.
