Re: Pike County Holiday Classic
John Fond, I would say Piketon pressure was definitly alot of the reason for the TO's for Eastern. Eastern made it a game in the third cutting it to within five. Then it looked like they completely forgot that piketon likes to run and didn't have anybody back on defense. I couldn't count how many times in a row piketon would get the rebound push up the floor and score before any eastern defenders were down their. The eagles didn't do what they were suppose to and piketon took full advantage. Congrats on Piketon for the win. I thought it would be a little closer, but the 4th quarter run of piketon was just to much for the eagles to handle. As Eaglesnest said, don't hang your heads to long. You played tough and hard for the full 32 minutes just wasn't able to pull it all together. Need to get ready for Western or it will be back to back losses. Will still be a good season for the Eagles and this will only get them ready for tourny time.

Re: Pike County Holiday Classic
I was surprised by Eastern's pressure defense, I thought it was better than what I anticipated. Piketon's ability to score this year amazes me, they're averaging over 70 points a game after losing two 1000 point scorers.
Again, it will be tough without Southworth vs. Waverly, however I once heard someone say never underestimate the "Heart" of a Champion....Piketon's players and coaches know how to win!

John Fond,
Piketon's pressure defense was exactly the problem. I'd say Eastern played as well as they could.
Eastern showed real heart when they came out with a 12-0 run to start the 3rd to cut it to 36-29 with 3:20 to play before Brush hit FT's to push the lead back to 9 at 38-29. The Eagles stil fought and cut it 5 at 38-33 with 2:50 to go in the period but Piketon answered back with 9-1 run to end the period and cruised through the 4th.
Eastern gave it a run but couldn't keep up with the overall speed.
Lewis lead Piketon with 20, Vulgamore 15, Legg 13, Moore and Brush 10 each, Helton 6, Braniff 3. I was very impressed with Vulgamore.
Wheeler lead the Eagles with 13, Lawhorn and Thornsberry 12 each, Montgomery 8, Hawks, Lands, Pickett and Selbee with 2 each.

How does Piketon keep James Lewis out of the starting lineup? The kid was on fire last night. He went to the hole and finished then stepped back to hit a three. I read that he had 10 rebounds. This "sixth man" could be the MVP if he has the same kind of night against the tigers.

James plays very well, and is a key to our lineup. He had a great night last night, but we believe he can do this anytime he steps onto the floor. I've said it before, he may be the quickest guard in our league, and he can defend anyone. He has put the work in, and he will keep getting better. I'm proud of him; this is only his 3rd season of organized basketball...He definitely is fun to watch with the effort he plays with!

I think with Southworth not grabbing everything that Brush might have a 12 pt 18 rb type of game....with about 5 blocks
Brush had 10 pts, 19 rb and 5 blocks....guess I was near. lol
Re: Pike County Holiday Classic
Great effort by the Eagles last night...as Toast said, just too much speed from the Redstreaks. I think Eastern will rebound and learn a lot from last night's game. I would consider them a heavy favorite (-12) going into tomorrow night in the consolation game. As far as Waverly/Piketon, I'm still bummed out that Southworth isn't playing. I wanted to see both teams at their best. If Waverly wins, it will be b/c Southworth wasn't there. If Piketon wins, it makes Waverly look bad b/c they don't have all their players on the floor. In any event, you can only play what's in front of you, and hopefully the Tigers will take advantage on the glass. Brush is an animal with great leaping ability...it will take all three of our bigs hitting the boards relentlessly to get it done.

Eastern played awful ball and it wasnt cause of pressure but still Eastern played hard.
What game was you watching? If the Teams played 10 times the Redstreaks would win 9. Especially if Southworth plays. This is what I expected. Team loses it is because we played bad not because you were better. Face it last night Piketon was 23pts better. That doesn't happen by accident or because you played bad.
Hoggy, was a great tourney atmosphere. Will help all 4 teams come March. By the way, thanks for your service.
Re: Pike County Holiday Classic
While the Tigers would love to be playing the Redstreaks at "full strength", saying that Waverly will only win because Southworth isn't there is not only a slam against Waverly but the rest of the Piketon players as well! Glad to see Lewis performing well...I got to see him play in our Adult Rec League and he definitely has some skill! Good Luck to all of our County Teams the rest of the way, but GO TIGERS on Wednesday!

pcohio,
I don't think that is what bookem13 believes. I think what he is saying is people will say Waverly won because Southworth wasn't there. CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG, BOOKEM.
And, no way does Waverly look bad if Piketon wins without Southworth. Piketon didn't miss a beat last night and put it to a pretty good Eastern ball club who came in undefeated. Piketon is a quality squad who can win allot of ball games without Southworth.
Beating the Redstreaks (even without Southworth) will take everything the Tigers have. Piketon's guard play will probably be the best the Tigers face all year. By that I mean all their guards, not just the point.

James has the least experience of the returning players from last years Final Four team. James Grandpa told me that Coach Lisath gave him a specific workout plan after last season and James put in the work to get better.
I believe he is 6th Man because he is more of a #2 guard, which puts him behind Legg and he is too small (depending on the opponent) to play #3 (Jamie Helton). He started last night because Southworth was not there and the Streaks went with three guards. I just heard from a reliable source Southworth is coming back for the game and then returning to S.C.

Yea I was Wrong Sport101 Eastern Gave up that's the worst I have seen them play this year. They played hard there in the 3rd for 3 min's and just gave up after that and Piketon Pulled away even farther
