I'm not sure if Eastern does or not, but I do know that a few individuals on the team lift on their own time. Not sure if it's a team effort though.

Re: in season weight lifting?
I doubt that any teams have mandatory weight lifting for basketball in season. I am a big supporter of weight training for all athletes and think that it should be cycled and sport specific. In my opinion, the off-season weight training is for size and strength (explosion), the in-season training cycle should be for muscle maintenance with less weight and higher reps with strict form.

Rock Hill lifts 45mins before every practice. Even pre-game practice.(Less weight, more reps. obviously)

Re: in season weight lifting?
If lifting is such a sin, why isnt conditioning or running sprints? I mean, you are using a muscle group to the point of exhaustion, but 1 is frowned upon and the other is thought to be the cornerstone of basketball! lol
Lifting is like anything else, it can be a great thing or a bad thing. You wouldnt have your team running 20 suicides the night before a game, you shouldnt have them squatting or power cleaning with heavy weight and low reps either! Weight lifting is essential for basketball. The core area, from your thighs to your chest are the areas needed to keep up. A strong core is vital to any sport. Most are right, lower weight, more reps and good form are important.

South Point lifts around twice a week and then gets plenty of time to shoot out the soreness...in season lifting is a very important part of basketball or any sport for that matter...couldnt agree more with eagles73
