Athens Bulldogs (6-1) Versus Nelsonville-York (4-1) - 1/8

Post by 93Bulldog »

The Buckeyes have a game versus Amanda Clearcreek on Tuesday - so they may be (5-1) or (4-2) when they travel to the Plains next Friday ...

Athens is off to a great start and are 1st in the TVC-Ohio ... They just got two huge obstacles out of the way in order to capture the league title ... Wins @ in The Alley against Alexander and @ Vinton County, where they ended the Vikings 36-league game winning streak.

But ... just like the old saying goes 'A Dog who poops quick, doesn't usually poop long' ... lol ... I guess that means teams which start fast are not always the team which finishes first ... or something like that ...

Bottom line - its early and there is still al lot of basketball to be played.

THE BUCKEYES on the other hand - I have had pegged since day one as the 'sleeper' in the TVC-Ohio ... Nobody has really agreed with me until they got off to a (4-0) start ... The loss to Trimble didn't look good at the time, but the 'Cats have won 4 games in a row are looking like a completely different unit ... With the Buckeyes size (Bunting 6-foot-3, Kline 6-foot-4 and Moore 6-foot-4 ... they may just cause the Bulldogs some trouble. GOODEN & MITCHEL are quality guards so the match-up seems pretty even going into Fridays contest.

The biggest differece may lie with the PG position ... Athens has a 4-year starter and does a tremendous job, if Pfaff keeps playing at the level he's been playing at AND Butcher continues to provide offensive firepower - the 'Dogs will be tough to beat at home ... But don't be surprised if the score is close and it goes right down to the wire ... With Athens coming off two-straight hard fought defensive battles against VC & Eastern - they may have the edge seeing as they have experienced these kinds of fights the past two weeks.

HERE IS AN AMAZING STAT FOR THOSE WHO FOLLOW THE TVC ...

The ATHENS boys have only lost 1 league game in the last 10 & half months!!!

* They went UNDEFEATED in baseball in the league last spring, lost the one game to NY on the gridiron this fall and haven't lost yet on the hardwood .... That is crazy ... Their last league loss was last Febuary to Alexander in Albany on Febuary 15th.

It's nice to not lose a league game but we got screwed in baseball with a 5 seed and lost in the first round and then didn't even make the playoffs in football. Lets hope for a better tournament run from the round ball bulldogs.

I've seen Nelsonville and I'm taking the bulldogs by at least 20.

Nice to see Athens back on the right track. GLAD they are doing it in the TVC...The TVC will continue to grow and be more competitive as the years go by. As for the game...You really cant pick against Athens after beating two of the best teams in the league back to back. NY however is off to one heck of a start and will be looking to continue it. Im going to say this one will be low scoring as the Bulldogs have really controlled the tempo of the last few contests. I know you cant pick against the Bulldogs, BUT, NY's size could be an issue for Athens...so im going to say in an upset...Buckeyes-51 Bulldogs-47. Both the Bucks and the Dogs have proven they can win close games...either way this one should be decent. Congrats to BOTH NY and Athens as they have represented the TVC-Ohio VERY well so far this year!!! (as well as everyone else in the league) only ONE team below .500 for the season.

I think the Bulldogs are better. I have watched both teams in person and on tv, but the Buckeyes play Sat and Tues while the Dogs are on a 10 day hiatis. Good luck Athens.

Athens may need a bit of layoff after its three game stretch that included trips to Alex and Vinton and a slugfest at home versus Eastern ... NY will be tough, but I have to gibve the upper hand to Athens with it being at home ... Now, when the 'Dogs head to NY, that's a different story.

Hopefully the Bulldogs can quickly shake off the rust of a 10 day layoff. Maybe the rest will do them good, maybe not. One never knows in athletics, it all depends on the kids and coaches. Athens is off to a great start, but out of 7 games 4 were barnburners, Athens blew out Gallia and Wellston and got handled by Jackson.
I suspect this one will be a battle as well.
Bulldogs and Buckeyes - Lets pack McAfee Gymnasium for this one.

THE DOGS WILL BE FINE - I'M SURE COACH SKINNER HAS THE KIDS HUFFIN & PUFFIN EVERY DAY IN PRACTICE ...

I TALK TO MICHAEL BARRICK ABOUT ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK (LAST SEASONS SG FOR NY & QB ON THE FOOTBALL TEAM) ... COACH KLINE HAD HIM AND SOME OTHER OLDER, FORMER BUCKEYE ALLUMS SCRIMMAGE THIS YEARS BUCKS TEAM (TO KEEP THEM SHARP) DURING THEIR LONG LAY-OFF... IM NOT SURE IF SKINNER HAS EVER DONE THAT WITH ATHENS BEFORE, BUT ITS A GOOD IDEA IMO ... GET SOME OLDER FORMER PLAYERS IN THE GYM WITH THE CURRENT TEAM, AND GET THEM TO TOUGHEN THE PUPS A LITTLE VIA A 'PHYSICAL HALF COURT SCRIMMAGE' ... Getting older and younger generations together is something Nelsonville-York is good at with all sports - its how they manage to keep their PRIDE & TRADITION at a much higher level than most schools ... If Athens ever wants to achieve anything close to what NY has in terms of HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS intrest/spirit - They need to be creative and take some notes on how they do things up Rt. 33 ... Coach Adams (footballl) has done a great job attempting to revearse the negative ideology that surrounds Athens: I'm certain Coach Skinner will continue those efforts: maybe one of these days, it will all come together and Athens will be just like NY, or the Logan's or Ironton's of the world.

Arnold2009bby, I really don't understand your post. The player you are referring to is on the varstity roster. He is not the only jr. on the varsity roster. I think you should refrain from using this forum for nonsense like that.

AxGrinder - I'm just stating that in all the forums or posts about Athens Varsity Basketball, They Never Talk About Him. That's all i'm saying, I know this kid and he works hard everyday after practice just shooting the rock by his house. So what nonsense am i supposedly using this forum for?

We love Johnny down here in Bulldog land. I had the pleasure of coaching him and he is a hard worker and a very good shooter.

According to Athens' coach Jeff Skinner, tonight's Athens vs. Nelsonville-York game has been postponed. There is no make-up date for sure as of yet. Thanks.
