Nice effort and great team play by the jv squad and alot of playing time for several players...Good job Coach Duckworth...great effort all around and Hats off to Mr Landon Kern and Mr Henthorn for there extra effort...Kern just owned the boards..Henthorn played hard the entire night... Windland,Ward, and Leffingwell picked it up a notch tonight as well onboth ends of the floor..Good job guys!

Varsity played hard and hats off to Mr Cunningham for giving the warriors your best effort of the season, That would be a treat to watch if you bring the intensity you brought tonight...hope to see more. Still looks like the warriors are in need for offensive help somewhere....the lack of scoring threats really make the team predictable,
5 weapons would be a treat to watch and then add a game like Cunningham had and it could get scary for some teams. Still like to see Mr Fivecoait become more of an offensive threat and get more touches, and shoot alot more especially when Venham isnt hitting like tonight. Fivecoait could take some pressure off Venham and make it a tough inside duo! Getting some flow into the game for some players that are your outside threat would make things click. I Think with the sophomores Warren has as shooting guards, it would be tough to comeout after sitting for a while and hitting the trey. Maybe a system that would benefit would be to alternate the guards for a quarter and with Knost and Ellenwood to keep banging inside as well, and keep everyone fresh, could see a difference. Just need to do something to give the kids some confidence that keeps there head up and focused....But overall a good effort and should get back on the winning track with Gallia,Belpre and Marietta coming up, gives them time to build that confidence before the 2nd round of league games. Great job Coach Maddox for keeping the kids effort strong. So keep your head up Warriors cause  The sun comes out tmrw.

Good effort by both teams. Way too much Michael Turner! Does he always shoot the lights out??? Warren will be fine if they keep playing with that intensity.

Warren did play a good game last nite. Cap'n Scoop is right, Michael Turner was hot and no he doesn't always shoot like that %age wise. We have scouted them (Chilli) several times this year and Michael Turner is a great player and he was just on last nite. I tip my hat to him and the Chilli squad for a great game. The game was alot closer than the final score indicated. The whole 4th quarter was Chilli by 1, 3, 1, 3, 5, 3, 1, 3, 5, and then we had to foul at the end. We got out rebounded badley due to Mr. Londons 10 foot arm span but offensively I think we only committed around 3 turnovers. We took care of the ball but couldn't convert. My son come home last nite and wasn't happy about the loss but was pleased with our team over all effort, especially Little Johnny's.

Warrior C C.........what's up with you?

All i can say about the game last night is why oh why do you put somebody that has sat on the bench that long into the game and let him bomb the 3's. The way Cunningham was shotting last night the team should have been freeing him up for the shots or get the ball into Venham. Sometimes you have to ride the horses that got you there. Overall it was a great effort by the team against the big man from Chilly and just an unfortunate night that #21 just couldn't miss. Well enough about last night on to Gallia friday night. Go Warriors hold your heads high its still a long season and good things can and will happen if you believe in each other.

This post made me smile....the comment about the horses..Venham and Cunningham have played together for years, and they used to be know on their traveling team as the "Show Ponys".It was a great effort last night as a team, just came up short.

What a great effort last night by Austin Cunningham....when his game is on he is really something to behold....he played a complete ballgame in all phases....we were in this game and when we made a play, Turner answered, seemingly every time down the stretch....now its our turn to get on a roll and get some momentum for the 2nd half....the league is still up for grabs and lets go for it....starting at Gallia!

All I can say is . . . dang. The effort was there. The defense was solid. Cunningham was super. Other than Cunningham the shots weren't falling for the Warriors. The difference in the game was 21 for Chilli who was flippin' lights out. I think the paper said he was 9 for 12. That last quarter I felt like our boys were going to turn it, but 21 just kept hitting.

I feel like the team just needs to get over the hump. They can't lose to the teams that they need to beat, and the next time around they have to be able to beat the 3 teams that have beaten them (Chilli, Ironton & Portsmouth). Too bad 2 of the 3 are away now.

I felt better about the team last night, but . . . dang.

Keep getting better. You are still in this thing.

Stats from the Marietta Times:

Chillicothe 7 15 17 24 - 63
Warren... 8 11 16 17 - 52

CHILLICOTHE (5-3, 4-1 SEOAL): Isaac Beverly 2-3 0-0 4; Michael Turner 8-13 8-10 27; Jalen Ragland 2-4 1-2 5; Brandon Beverly 1-6 0-0 2; Malik London 1-4 4-6 6; Zach Johnson 3-6 2-2 8; Tyler Manion 4-5 1-2 9; Timmy Dunbar 1-1 0-0 2. Team 22-42 16-22 63. 3pt goals 3 (Turner 3).

WARREN (5-3, 1-3 SEOAL): Grant Venham 4-12 5-7 13; Andrew Lang 0-2 0-0 0; Clay Ellenwood 2-9 0-0 4; Austin Cunningham 10-19 5-5 30; Brandon Fivecoait 1-2 0-2 2; Jace Knost 0-4 3-6 3; Jeremy Hastie 0-5 0-0 0; Tyler Ward 0-1 0-0 0; Justin Hilverding 0-0 0-0 0. Team 17-54 13-18 52. 3pt goals 5 (Cunningham 5).

Team stats:

Chillicothe: Shooting 22-42 (53 percent); 3pt shooting 3-8; Rebounds 34 (London 11, Turner 6); Assists 5 (B. Beverly 2); Steals 1; Turnovers 12; Blocks 2 (London 2); Total fouls 15

Warren: Shooting 17-54 (31 percent); 3pt shooting 5-16; Rebounds 18 (Ellenwood 5); Assists 7 (Ellenwood, Fivecoait 2); Steals 6 (Cunningham 4); Turnovers 3; Blocks 4 (Cunningham 2); Total fouls 14.

My comments, only from the stats, and not from being at the game:

Field goal shooting was the difference in this game as Warren had a big edge in turnovers(they had an amazingly low number - 3), and Chillicothe had a big edge in rebounding.

Each team had a player have a terrific offensive night:
Cunningham - 1.32 points per FG attemped
Turner - 1.46 points per FG attempted

However the team's totals were:
Warren - 0.72 points per FG attempt
Chillicothe - 1.12 points per FG attempt

Teams minus their one player:
Warren - 0.40 points per FG attempt
Chillicothe - 0.97 points per FG attempt

There was not nearly as much of a separation for Chillicothe, in the points per shot of the total team vs. the rest of the team, as there was with Warren.

That fact combined with the big difference in rebounding and the very low turnovers for Warren, leads me to think the Chilli defense packed it in and didn't do much helping on defense against Cunningham, and were content to hold their position against the rest of the Warren players, not giving them many good shots and boxing out well for the defensive rebounds.

Warren missed 37 shots and Chilli got 34 rebounds, while Chilli missed only 20 shots and Warren got 18 rebounds.

Speaking of 110%- Landon Kern is another kid who is always there giving everything he has! It was a great game to watch!

Great game, just a little off on the shooting...except for Cunningham...Great Game AC ...keep that effort rolling!
If Warriors could get some good shooting on a given night , it could be great to watch. Team play seemed to be alot stronger especially on effort. First step of many to climb the mountain but it can be done.
GREAT,GREAT,GREAT JV GAME....What an effort there, and bringing Cowen down to play was a good gesture to get the boy some playin time. AT A BOY DUCK! Just a solid game all around for all the players and they even seemed like they enjoyed it for once....So keep building the future Duck and could be a nice couple of years ahead!
Good job Ward,Henthorn, and Hastie in controlling the tempo and Landon,Josh,Dillon--way to just work your butts off. Tremendous effort on the boards! Heart was showing 2night!
You guys have alot of potential, so keep up the good work. Just a treat to watch the group play...Tear it up at Gallia Friday!

This is one of the things that’s wrong with Warren basketball. Each year, Maddox has one or two super stars on the team who he thinks can do it all. The rest of them get yanked out or glared at if they screw up. We don’t need “Show Ponies”. We need a team of work horses that work together and aren’t afraid of getting the whip if they stumble. Maybe the “teamster” needs to lighten up. You would think he would see his method isn’t working. I think it was a great effort but I don't think we are getting the most out of all the players.

Read the post again it said used to not what they are called now. From my perspective there is nothing wrong with WARREN basketball just some of the people that think players are being mistreated. All sports teams that succeed have players that are so called superstars. Name me some teams that have succeeded with just a bunch of workhorse type players.

I did read the post. I didn't say that's what they're called now. It's just the way they are treated now. I didn't say I thought players where mistreated. I just said I thought there was more potential from the other players if they where treated the same as the so called superstars. I will agree with you that there are always superstars on each team and are needed at times. But from my perspective, there are things wrong with the program. But, I guess there's a little something wrong with every program. It just seems like an easy fix to treat every kid with the same respect and rules as the next.
