If you are speaking of the girls jr hi game Burg @ Webster tonight then I do not recall any "Big shot" referees being there & I do not recall myself or my partner threatening to throw anyone out of the gym or explaining to anyone what a reach is?????
I apoligize if you did not like us, we called the game the best that we seen it & I sure did not think or do not think that we were big shots.....Brett called us & said he needed officials for tonight & we told him we would be glad to come down & do the games.

Me and one of my buddys where watchin a high school game down at piketon and the home plate umpire was not calling a very good game, me and my buddy's mistake was sitting right behind him, as the game went on we could tell he was getting mad. towards the end of the game another one of my friends just came and sat down beside us and i said something and he turned around and tossed my friend who just sit down out of the game!!! he still gets on me for that every time i see him...lol

Speaking of baseball. Last year at one of the Peebles/West Union knothole(Im thinking it was 3rd graders) baseball games, one of the fans(realize that this man was well into his 40s) from the WU side threatened to fight the 14yr old umpire. It irritates me to see fans like this at games, no matter what the sport.

Swanker Pine - "Reach" is not a foul. "Touch" can be.

Blockcharge,
A reach is not a foul???  Wow!! Everynight I hear people screaming from the stands she/he is reaching in!!! :122245 So a reach is NOT a foul!! Let me say this again, A REACH IS NOT A FOUL-it is a foul if contact is made-only if the official blows his/her whistle.
I had a game this week that a parent/fan says from the stands, "that is over and back"- "you were standing right there and you didn't see that?" Over and back is when all three parts of the player have crossed mid court-both feet and the ball-into the front court. The player then has to touch the line or step back into the backcourt-or throw the ball into the backcourt-or the offensive team has to be the last to touch it before it goes into the backcourt and then a teammate touch it first!!! YES, I was standing right there!!! The girl had one foot into the frontcourt then brings that foot into the backcourt and dribbles on!!! THIS IS NOT A VIOLATION!!!
I had a game last week that fans were screaming that a player stepped on the endline and it was a violation. If a person is taking the ball out of bounds he/she can step onto the OUT-OF-BOUNDS-LINE!!!! This is not a violation!!!! It is an OUT-OF-BOUNDS-LINE!!! I hope this can help some who don't know these two rules!!!!!!

A reach is not a foul? WHAT! That must be why the refs look at me like I am stupid when I scream at the top of my lungs, "CALL THAT REACH."

so if i am taking the ball out and just as i get ready to release it i see a defender getting into position to steal my pass i can legally step on the line? what if i drop the ball to avoid the turnover and it hits the line is this a turnover? could you give me the rule number and page that answers this question?

I personally enjoy it when fans scream, "OVER THE BACK!!" 1.) "Over the back" can be found absolutely no where in an OHSAA rule book. :122246 2.) The kid is usually jumping straight up and just so happens to be behind a player from your team.

You danged ol' refs can't get anything right!! :122249

you can reach but can't touch. you can touch the ball however. and yea, that game is what I'm talking about. I was about 5 feet from the action in front of me. I thought one of the refs was calling a pretty good game but the other one left something to be desired... there was a skinny-ish one and a slightly huskier one with longer hair. the skinnier one is the one who asked me if i wanted to go back where I came from.

I would be the slightly huskier one with longer hair...lol....
I did not see my partner speaking with you & he never did mention it after the game.
My apologies. I was not aware that he threatened to "Toss" anyone.

One of my favorite cheers, of which my wife claims to have made up.

I'M BLIND, I'M DEAF, I SHOULD HAVE BEEN A REF!

Now that's funny right there!

Wasn't the entire gym cleared of fans at last years Notre Dame vs New Boston game last year. I heard something about a fight on the court that spilled over into the fans. Anyone remember that one?

Swanker - (from Basketball Rules By Topic) Boundary Lines of the court consist of End Lines and Side Line (Rule #4-9-1). The inside edges of these lines define the inbounds and out-of-bounds areas (Rule #4-9-2). So yes a player or the ball (Rule#9-2-2 ... a player may bounce the ball on the out-of-bounds area...) can step on the line providing they do not break the plane of the inside edge of these lines.

Also dealing with reach and touch - "...The mere fact that contact occurs does not constitute a foul. When 10 players are moving rapidly in a limited area, some contact is certain to occur. (Rule #4-27-1). Contact which may result when opponents are in equally favorable positions to perform normal defensive or offensive movements, should not be considered illegal, even though the contact may be severe. (Rule #4-27-2) But we do have to call a foul when the contact re-directs or gives the defense an advantage

sparky-if you read block charges comments then you have your answers. I hope you learned something about these rules and can pass it on to all the so called fans who show up to just harass all of us officials. :122246 :122249 :-D
