^^^^^LOL www.redstreakshoops.com this website was put together by Scott Legg. The server it runs off of cant handle a lot of hits, so sometimes you cant get on it. It gives a lot of history for Piketon basketball. I find the non basketball stuff in there just as interesting.

I liked your post.

5 state titles
16 regional championships
46 district championships
65 sectional championships

Over 2,300 victories all-time between the two schools

No other rivalry in the Southeast District can come close to matching those numbers.

trojandave, no one would dispute those numbers, but what is the head to head matchups with these two programs? I am curious as to that history of these two programs?

What does total wins have to do with a rivalry? Just because you're program has had past success does not mean the hatred of your rival is any stronger than a consistent .500 team. Rivalries are like feuds without the shootings. How many kids will cross the line and go to the rival's prom?

What does wins have to do with a rivalry??? Is that a real question. Think of it this way. Would OSU-Michigan be the best rivalry in football if they both stunk. I am pretty sure Washington and Washington State hate each other just as much but since they are not relevant it is not a great rivalry. OU and Miami Ohio hate each other but again, they are just not the most relevant teams. ALL rivalries have some hatred involved. The thing that sets Portsmouth-Chillicothe apart is the hatred AND the success.

Spank you very much Datchilli. Are we talking national attention or two schools that would do anything to beat each other. Tennesee-UK football play the last game of the season every year. There is no more hatred between OSU-Michigan than there is between these schools. Tennesee always wins but tell the people in the stands that they don't have the rivalry that the nationally ranked teams do. If USC and UCLA falls out of the top 25 then the rivalry doesn't exist? Like I said before its like a feud, not a TV induced frenzy to gain market share.

Agreed, those two were scary good. The show downs between Jackson's Greenfield team and Tirrell Cumberland's Hillsboro team should also get a mention on here.

Ironton- Portsmouth still big. Chesapeak and Ironton has become fairly big in the last decade. For atmosphere, go across the river Ashland - Boyd County (when they are good) will play in front of 7000 , at least they have at Boyd County. first time I seen that gym I was amazed how big it is.

In the 70's, Waverly vs. Gallipolis! Packed house home & away. 14 or 15 boy played college sports out of the '72-'73 team.
