JACKSON BASKETBALL
Re: JACKSON BASKETBALL
Barrick would be another huge name with quite the reputation.
One of the top 5 coaches in the SE district IMO.

Dustin Ford Fan is a college student. Coach May does not post on here to my knowledge.
I think Ironmanfan01 is another alias from one of those Vinton County jokers...lol Or with that comment, it might be someone from Meigs County that is hitting that Meigs Gold stuff too much!!
I don't see Barrick going anywhere and I'm sure Jackson has been making cuts in the number of teachers in the district. So finding a teaching job will be difficult. That's another reason why I think Heath McKinnis would be a good fit. Unless a teacher is willing to keep they're current job and travel to Jackson, it's going to be a hard job to draw someone to. IMO.

Ironman101 lives in Jackson, matter of fact, huge Jackson Ironmen fan. She is a huge football fan but has quit going to alot of games to tend to her flower garden. Basketball has became her joy because of the indoor season and fancy uniforms.

Re: JACKSON BASKETBALL
Yeah, Jim Derrow would be a great choice! Let's see, Wellston Basketball has basically fallin off the map over the past 10 years. Jackson would be doing Wellston fans a favor by hiring Derrow since his buddies on the Wellston School Board are the only reason he still has a job. I think its pretty funny how the football coach is held to different standards than the basketball coach. If the football team in Wellston loses 5 games they're looking for a new coach, but the basketball team can have several losing seasons in a row and Jim Derrow is still on his throne. All I can say is, if nothing else, we know he is a great recruiter........that is if you don't mind your kid sitting the bench so we can watch some foreign exchange students play!

I believe that Heath McKinnis is the right man for the jackson job. And from what ive heard many of the kids at Jackson want him to become the coach and would enjoy playing under him.

Don't know who is next! Heard the Stevens' brothers were in town last weekend! Just visiting their mother? Doubt that brother Mike would leave Kings! Don't know about Pat!
Re: JACKSON BASKETBALL
Jackson fans coming out of the woodwork. Mike helped coach when Glen Gillespie was here back in the late/mid 80's. Pat coached some at Hillsboro I believe. I doubt Pat would come back without being the AD.
Both could do the job well.

Ironman92 wrote:Agree with the 17-3 record for Ford and the schedule....but that team went up agaisnt a very talented and battle-tested 17-3 Logan Elm team in the sectionals and played their tails off. Ford had those players playing harder than any other team I've ever witnessed at Jackson. I'll watch Jackson play like that regardless of their record or who they are playing.
I'd rather see 7-13 with maximum effort than 11-9 with eye-rolling and the attitudes.
There weren't many attitudes on Ford's teams.
I totally agree with you I92.....kids that play hard are fun to watch every year even with the ups and downs of the talent level of you're team and the league. I think McKinnis can bring that intensity.
Re: JACKSON BASKETBALL
maybe howard will use his shl connections and bring in a former shl coach? also, what about harrop from western?
Re: JACKSON BASKETBALL
Old SHL coaches? Harrop comes to mind and he certainly knows Howard.
What about Whiteoak's old coach Pat Hines? He could find a place down here and wouldn't need a teaching job. Pretty good resume with a Final 4 and an Elite 8 in the last 8 years.
Brett Coreno?

Hines was a great coach, I enjoyed watching his teams play, but I don't think we need another retired coach. I think we need some youth and try to get some longevity. Coreno is a nice thought, and not a bad drive if he has to stay in Piketon for a teaching job. I'm not a big Harrop fan. He had talent at Western and bailed when it dried up. I'm not sure he has the skills to build a program either.. JMO.
Re: JACKSON BASKETBALL
i was thinking more along the lines of ex peebles guys mcfarland, justice, or even davis. or dave young when he has had his fill of the north adams admin.
Re: JACKSON BASKETBALL
Can't fathom why Justice would want it.
McFarland is a thought.
For Dave Young to consider it I'd have to switch houses with him.

I wouldn't even think Dave Young would consider Jackson unless he's just after the ultimate challenge. He's at a school where basketball rules as it does in most of the schools in the SHL. I don't think he would like the adjustment from NA where he has an open gym and probably has 12 - 20 kids show up and come to Jackson and the coaching staff has to play to field two teams so you can run full court. Other than getting a few kids to team camp, Jackson has little to no off season basketball. We play second fiddle to football and always will.

Winning would help that, but that would take TIME. Would Jackson give a coach enough time to build a winning tradition. They have had alot of coaches the last five years. They need a class that is tough and young. A class that doesn't put up with losing that will help Jackson more than one year.

Logan will give you Keith Meyers and someone might even help with his salary!

I think Logan, just because they are D1 think they have great basketball players and that is not the case.

Hey bump, the problems run deeper than our players. This is about Jackson and we will offer our head coach just for Jackson!

Everything you state here is true. Winning hides a bunch of sins and so does talent. Truth be told, we have groups of parents (I'm sure it's the same at every school) here that have unrealistic goals and have unrealistic views of the talents of they're little Johnny. It's okay when your winning for Johnny to get minutes off the bench, but if you lose, well Johnny should have been playing! As I stated in a previous post, we have a new administration and I think they will help back the coach when we have a distraught parent instead of folding and making it difficult for the coach and hopefully that will promote some longevity in a coaching staff to build a program.
Logan can keep Coach Meyers...... Logan my have not had fantastic basketball players the last couple of years, but they do have athletes up there. I'm not for sure if they are all coming out for basketball or not. But they always put some nice looking athletes on the floor.

Just curious, if the new administration will back the coaches then why didn't they back the old coaches instead of getting rid of them. One is a hall of famer and the other they went to a few years back and asked him to take the job when no one else would.
