Logan coach does a fine job and so does the staff he has. The problem is inconsistancy.
If you notice, the same quality of athletes seem to really focus when it comes to football to focus for every play but when it comes to basketball they are not the same team night in and night out. Why is that? No mental toughness or confidence. It is hard to coach that!!!!!

Wizard, are you sure they asked Jordan not to return, or did he choose to not return?

As with most things on here I guess it is rumor. I have not talked to Jordan myself to ask that question. I was told at the District All-Star game last night by some other coaches that "they got rid of both" at Jackson. These coaches are much closer to that action than I would be.

I am sure that Jay Martin the girls coach was told he would not be renewed. I'm not so sure that was the case for Coach Jordan.

Larry Jordan was asked to resign my the school and I know this to be true because he had a meeting with the players after their banquet and said he wanted to return but the school would not let. It was a touching speech.

Coach Jordan has the quality of getting his players to play hard and be tough. Some other coaches don't have that quality no matter how many football players you put on the floor, they just go out on the football field and win and go through the motions in basketball.

let me get this straight. you bring a coach in when you are having problems and turn around 2years later and send him packing? that doesn't sound right.

Sure, I see a problem with it, but this problem is in every school district, not just Jackson. The difference between now and the old days, is the days of what happens in the gym stays in the gym are gone! Parents have way too much access to the coaches, AD, BOE members and everybody spends too much time trying to be politically correct. Gallipolis has been truly blessed with longevity and loyalty of Coach Osborne. Can you be that lucky when the time comes to replace him, that you to will go through some rough stretches until you find a good one? They are few and far between.

Good for Jordan, if Jackson wants to go this route then get out of dodge as fast as you can. It is a joke down there, we would welcome him back to the SVC with open arms.

IMO Jordan did a better job in his 1st year at Jackson...he really worked wonders.

Year two had it's big moments...but too many negatives to go with the positives.

All I can say is that Jackson did not have near the players and athletes that most other teams had in the seoal. It is a football school. If you notice most of these football schools go through coaches constantly. Then people wonder why the basketball programs struggle, it takes 4 years to even get your philosphy and style in place to be successful. Whatever, good part is the Legend will show up somewhere closer to home and I'm way good with that.

My response was EVERYONE loves a winner, and if they had a tiddlywinks state champion and Jackson won it, somebody in town would print t-shirts and everybody would buy one!

And then Dustin Ford came to Jackson, the Ironmen started winning, even getting to a district championship game, and all of a sudden, "poof" people in Jackson care about basketball.

I will say it again (and this is not true of just Jackson) when admin stops caving to the parents and fans and lets the coach run his program, if he is worth his salt (and Jordan has nearly 600 wins on his side) the winning will happen.

I remain convinced that too many coaches are burned out and just plain tired of dealing with all the meddling and politicking so that whatever love they have for their kids and their sport suffer because of it. I am struggling to think of a coach or a school that hasnt had to deal with this very issue in this just concluded decade, and if I could I would name names and schools and it includes a veritable who's who list of some of the very best. FACT!

PM me and we can discuss the specifics privately that I dont feel is appropriate publicly.

Great post Gahs!!! People love winners and all the little petty stuff that goes on through the season gets swept under a rug when your winning. Those same petty small little mole hills turn into MOUNTAINS when your losing.

A very good coach once told me, that the only coach with any pressure to win is the Varsity Coach. Jr. High, Freshman, JV....nobody cares what your record is. As long as the kids play hard and people can see the development of the players and you handle yourself in a professional manner, you can coach those levels forever regardless of your record. The head coach can do all of the above mentioned things, but you go 3 years in a row with losing records and normally....YOUR GONE!!

COACH OSBORNE FORM GALLIA IS A PERFECT FIT IF YOU CAN TALK HIM INTO TAKING THE PROGRAM. A REAL CLASS PROFORMER AS A PERSON AND COACH.

Let's be honest here, Larry Legend did some things you just can't do! This issue was brought on by Larry and Larry alone, there was/is NO crusade to undermine Jackson Basketball. At some schools he wouldn't have lasted the year with sending a bus load of boys home from a game with no supervision, and he was suspended for failing to get his proper licenses from the State (who's fault is that?). The problem at Jackson is they have historically lacked basketball talent.

Pol Pot - I agree with you on everything except for the part on Jackson's talent aspect. Jackson has not developed their talent in the lower levels. They have never had a quality biddie league program. Look at Vinton County and they have the same talent pool but have developed their talent through an outstanding biddie basketball program. I would say that 90% of the success of VC Basketball goes to the person that has started and is dedicated to their biddie league basketball program.
